Thanks, looks like I'm going to switch then. One last question with regards to ordering online, the contacts I was fitted with at boots are 0.25 weaker than the results of my eye test, even though the eye test and contact lense appointment were days apart, is this normal?
I'm assuming I should order according to my current contact lense prescription and not the eye test results.

Yeah, order from your contact lens specification. Depending on your prescription, contact lenses will sometimes be a different strength from your glasses, it's because they are closer to your eye.

My OH has got himself some new contact lenses and although i dont want to pay out for insurance i feel its probably for the best as we cant afford to keep replacing them at £120 (each) (Hes already torn one and obviously cant keep paying out that sort of money.

Can anyone recommend a company who will insure contact lenses and if so, any idea how much is reasonable? The opticians didnt know of any as they dont try and sell insurance policies which i actually thought was a refreshing change:D

Sorry if its been asked already, but i did search it and got no results!
  • can't help with the insurance but are you sure he is getting the best deal on his lenses? £120 per lens seems like an extortionate amount for a soft lens, even a custom made one.
He should ask for a copy of his contact lens specifications (they are legally obliged to give them to him) and shop around to see if any other optician can supply them cheaper.

    £120 EACH

I get 12 pairs for that - including the solutions and aftercare package.

Does he need specialised lenses? Otherwise he might be better off looking at monthly lenses rather than forking out £120 a throw.

Should have gone to XXXXXXXXXX ;)

p.s. and I think I can claim a free pair of lenses once a year if I lose/tear one.

Yes, he has quite a complicated prescription! Our usual optician couldnt supply him and he has spent over a year trying all different types, and these ones finally suit with a different opticiain in another town - he has tried hard, honest! Initially he wanted daily disposables, turned out they're not suitable for him, then he tried hard ones, they were no good, so soft ones it is. btw, we did go to XXXXXXXX but they wouldnt even give him a consultation because of the prescription! Thats why the lenses must be looked after and preferably insured. In light of the replies though i will do some research and see if they are cheaper to replace elsewhere, (although i have a negative feeling!!!!)
    Thanks.
