I am seriously thinking of getting contacts,I am short sighted, hate wearing glasses, but am only +175 or is that _:confused:
Anyway can you get contacts with that spec or do your eyes have to be worse
Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.

I am going to have a free 5 day contant lenses trial with Specsavers and the plan is to order from an online retailer if I get on ok with them. I have found one good site - contactlenses.co.uk and they seem so much cheaper than specsavers! A month's supply of Focus Dailies for £26.00 (free delivery)
Anyone recommend any other good online retailers? - After reading this forum I will make sure I get my prescription from specsavers! - they won't be getting my business that's for sure! Their prices are ridiculous!

    hiya Tango

you can definately get contacts with your prescription (and if you're short-sighted it'll be -1.75 BTW)
ask around for a free trial, a lot of places will do one if your sight test prescription is in date (if you are due a sight test there are some opticians which are offering free eye tests, then just take the prescription to somewhere which will give you a free contact lens trial)

    good luck :D

but thats more expensive than specsavers
They only charge £22 for a months supply of Focus Dailies and if you pay by direct debit that will even include your contact lens check-ups, free delivery and money off glasses. (I know cos I work for them;) )

And if you have never worn lenses before then you will probably have to wear them for more than 5 days before they will issue your prescription, the optometrist should only issue it when they are satisfied that the lenses are suitable for your eyes and will not cause any harm, this generally requires between 1-3 months successful wear of the lenses.

  • I've been trying to find somewhere that sells contact lens insurance. Have looked extensively but can find nothing. My hard lenses cost about £100 each. I have lost the left one twice in the last month. I think insurance would be a good idea. Did you find anywhere when you were looking for insurance sharondt?

I can't help with the insurance,I'm afraid, but £120 per lens seems a shocking amount of money.

I get my monthly soft lenses from Boots, they are not a special prescription admittedly, but I pay £6 a month on their DD scheme,so I get 12 pairs for £72.This includes free yearly check-ups and eye tests.

    Hi

My glasses prescription is high, I have a squint, a high astigmastium.

I used to wear gas permerbale lenses, worn glasses for 2 years but don`t like them, went for a trail of soft lenses at Specsavers- wanted daily disposables-no go. Did not like the soft-plus could not see very well- they said they could make some lenses to my prescription but £28 a month.

Been to Donald and aitchison today for a glasses sight test.

Told £27 for a contact lens assestment then approx £20 a month inclding all check ups, solutions and aftercare.

Does anyone use D and A for RGP lenses?

    Any good?

Just been having a look online and have found that I can buy GRP lenses from£19 each.

If I go for a contact lens fitting do they have to give me my prescription like they do with glasses?

    Does anyone else do this?

D and A say it will be approx £20 a month to include soloutions and aftercare so £240 a year, if I buy a pair £40 plus £5a month solutions so £100 a year.
