  • Aftercare is the routine contact lens check-ups, these are different and in addition to their sight tests, but the NHS do not pay for these.

SO would it be best for the kids to have their NHS sight tests first, then fo to Asda for their aftercare ?

They will generally be seen annually for their sight test if they are under 16, contact lens check-ups (aftercare) may be more frequent (the optician who does their CL check should say when they want to see them again, depending on their age and experience with lenses I would usually see children every 3-6 months for CL checks).

If the timing of the sight test & CL check are co-inciding (eg both due within a few weeks of eachother) then have the sight-test first and take the prescription from that to the contact lens check-up, as it is a legal requirement for anyone supplying contact lenses to make sure that you are up to date with your sight test.

    Hi All,

Does anyone know any optician who does free contact lens consultation and only charge for the lenses.

Also does anyone know of any medical insurance or healthcare cashplans which cover contact lens consulation within the first few days/month of joining?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi

I have gone back to wearing contact lenses after a 2 year break.

    I am wearing RGP`s.

I do not wear alot of make up but will now need to buy eyeliner and mascara, and eyeshodow.

Can anyone recomend a good cheap range for contact lens wearers?

    Thanks

I've worn lenses for several years an always used regular make up with no problems. Just clean your lenses overnight as normal.

hi everybody i hope you'll be of some help. I've worn contact lenses in the past but gave up with them; too many late student nights (difficult to take out at 3am...:p ) and just overall couldn't be bothered with the cleaning and hassle. so...

    1) Have recently had a new eye test and new prescription (-5.0 each eye) but this was for glasses and not lenses. Do i need another test for lenses? I remember having one last when my prescription was about -2.5 each eye.

    2) I used to wear SUREVUE lenses but have been looking at these ones you can wear constantly for 30 days - my optician mentioned them when i said i couldnt be bothered with the cleaning. Anyone have an opinion on these lenses. I'm sure they're safe and all, but are they good (sleeping with them in - comfortable??)

    3) best place to buy said lenses online - any particular brand to look out for? I used to buy off contactlenses.co.uk when they were about the only company doing this, but a quick google suggests there are dozens of companies now.

Many thanks for any tips and advice.

i notice the Bausch & Lomb - Purevision continuous wear lenses have the same base curve and diameter as the surevue i used to wear - a good chance they'll be right for me?

sorry i wait for a reply now :p

I use Bausch & Lomb Purevision torics for about £40 for 3 months supply. If you don't need torics they're even cheaper.

I did the free trial with Asda and fully intended to buy on the internet when I got my prescription but decided to stay with Asda. Their prices were comparable with internet prices but also include all the aftercare and checks. I recommend them completely.
