Have you tried 'go' or 'fit2travel'? I don't think the policies with the banks are always totally comprehensive even if they say they 'cover everything'.
  • Does anyone have any advice about getting an annual policy that will allow you to be abroad for more than 30 days in any one trip?

My 22 year old brother is off to work Germany for a year beginning in a few weeks and could do with some insurance to cover possessions, cancellations, etc. He doesn't need medical insurance as this is provided through his job, but he will be living there full time except for a brief stint back in the UK over Christmas. He should be home next June/July time.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for those suggestions.
I have phoned Go and although they advertise on their website that they cover medical conds, the girl said sorry, we don't.
fit2 travel is a possibility. i went through their screening online and then they sent me to their online doctor section to get approval. they wanted my cc details so that i could pay £10 for a consulatation, or £20 for a speedier consultation. I am a little reluctant to do that at the moment as I'm getting used to being turned down and can't afford to throw £10 away for nothing. Chicken & egg I feel.
I'm sure you are right about bank insurance. Having said that I did have a claim a long time ago through A & Leicester premier account Travel insurance & they were very quick to pay out. A bit worrying though when its through a bank, I agree.

    Hi
I have read every message left about travel insurance with pre-existing conditions. i still have failed to find anyone to insure us. (and that includes covermytravels, Columbus, saga..)
The reason I am struggling is twofold: my oh has conditions(heart attack 2005, heart bypass 2006, controlled diabetes, cancer 2001) all of which are of no problem to him. he is taking tablets for his heart but just as a prevention.
the other thing is we are going on hols for 127 days...to St Lucia. Which again bumps the price up or makes us uninsurable.
I have applied for a Lloyds TSB Gold account and am hoping that the insurance with that may be a possibility.
Anyone out there got any suggestions please? I'd really appreciate some help.
    Maggie

Have you tried www.medicitravel.com - I know they cover extensive pre-existing conditions. They used to be one of Martin's recommended suppliers for PEC's in his travel insurance review.
  • The cheapest policy that is recommended in the feature (for the under 65s. Direct Travel* at a cost of £18.85 for a basic 'bronze' policy) is a terrible policy - it has no baggage cover and no cancellation cover.

The cheapest policy available with baggage and cancellation (plus good levels of cover for everything else) is travel insurance web who are usually recommended by Martin.

As a past customer I usually get an email from them at the start of the summer offering a 15% discount on their annual policy. This year the link they sent me was: http://www.travelinsuranceweb.com/static/cheapest6/?sourceCode=EM483
Not sure if it still works, but worth giving it a try.

Yes i will give those a go. i have been told today that Lloyds tsb will not cover my oh - the cancer & diabetes, yes but not the heart. that is the one i really want to have covered.
I tried travelbility, Free spirit, Go, flexicover, manor insureandgo, but all refused to cover.
Its so frustrating as he feels very well, having had his bypass, has always had low collesteral.
If I could get an insurance to JUST cover his heart, I'd risk not having the baggage cover etc.
i'm not giving up yet though!

I did my insurance with 'fit 2 travel' over the PHONE because I prefer the 'human voice' and there is no misunderstanding. Wouldn't trust doing anything online as I need to be certain I'm getting what I'm paying for. Didn't have to pay for anything. I spoke to a really helpful guy called Scott and the phone no. is 0844 482 0808 or 0844 482 0848. They are part of Drakefield Ins. Services (whoever they are)...! Just told him the medical conditions and that was that. And also getting the excess waiver. Try phoning not doing this online as it's very important you get it right. :o

    we tried https://www.ehicplus.com/
only covers up to 31 days but the screening allowed us with hubbys heart attack and my asthma to get a very cheap quote for annual , relies on you having the E111 and only having hospital treatment and for european travel ...might be worth a try

Just wanted to say that EHICPlus do not seem to penalise you for relatively mild pre-existing conditions.

I have high cholesterol and very mild asthma and am in my 40s. With many policies, this would mean an extra £15 or more of premium, or no cover for any heart or lung problems. With EHICPlus, it does not cost any extra for cover on these things and they are cheaper than the cheapest on moneysupermarket even if I had no pre-existings.

HOWEVER, a warning: although there are only a few things they require you to disclose in the online application, DO NOT assume that everything else is covered. It isn't. There is no cover for "any medical condition...of which you are or should have been aware...unless you have disclosed it"

So, it seems to me you should voluntarily disclose any condition you have ever had.
