I used Moneysupermarket.com as recommended, for an annual multi-trip worldwide insurance policy. The quote was for half what I had paid the previous year. What a bargain I thought. When I read the small print on the emailed policy document it stated that it excluded cruises. As this insurance was specifically for cruises I thought it would be useless. Luckily I contacted Moneysupermarket within the 7 day cooling off period and they are going to refund my payment.
I wonder why the cost of cruise insurance is double that for flying? I would have thought you were far safer on a cruise ship and they all have medical centres on board.0 -
Does anyone know of any travel insurance companies that cover expensive SLR camera's please?
All policies seem to have an upper limit to a single valuable of £300ish - the camera is probably worth £600+
Thanks!0 -
My mum is planning to visit my brother in NZ in November, and is hoping to stay between 3 and 6 months. He is coming over to collect her as she will need help with the journey.
I have spent the day looking into getting insurance cover for her. No one will cover her for more than 90 days, and some for only 45 days.
The Post Office quoted £1100 for 90 days! Crazy.
She has highbp, which she is receiving medication for and osteoporosis, also receiving medication. No other health problems.
Any ideas guys?0 -
Bringing this back up hoping someone can help me.

I am planing a trip which is 31 days long, so is an annual policy which last 31 days enough? IE what if trip is delayed and we do not get back until 32nd day and then something happens?
I take it you mean the policy covers any number of trips, each trip up to 31 days? I would imagine that if something happened to delay your return then it would happen within that 31 day period so it would be covered. But I would check with the insurance company to make sure. If you want cover for a longer trip we used Columbus Direct and their annual multi trip policy covers trips up to 60 days. It was a good price too. Also not taking trip until Jan, thinking of an annual policy as will be taking a few uk trips next year, when should i take out insurance from?
Thanks
You take out your insurance as soon as you book your trip. Anything could happen at any time which could potentially cause you to cancel, so if you don't want to lose any money you need to arrange your insurance straight away. Make enquiries before you book your trip to decide which insurance company you want to use. They will usually give you a reference number to quote if you ring back to take up the cover and that will bring up all your details so you don't have to go through them again.0 -
Can anyone advise on best policy for 9 days to Majorca, Spain (EU) ( I included 1 day before and 1 day after in case of airport mishaps etc).
I would like the policy to start from 25/9/2008 and to finish on 04/10/2008
I am Male and D.O.B is 21/10/1986
My Partner is femal and her D.O.B is 12/4/1985
Ideally we would like a cheap policy but not one whereby you have to page HUGE ridiculous excesses if (touch wood) we have to claim. I checked a couple but wasn't sure if the policy was best in what it covers us for. Forgive me for being naive on this topic however normally my parents have sorted this when we have gone away as a family. And when they have done, it has only been to accept the travel agents insurance, without shopping around.
Any help or advice would be great.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -

Presumably the dates of your holiday are from 26 September to 3 October.
You don't start your policy from the actual date of your holiday. You start your policy as soon as you book your holiday, i.e. if it is already booked you should already have insurance. If you haven't, and something happens between now and 24 September, then you are not covered and you will lose a lot of money. The cost wont be any different if you start it today or 24 September.
There are lots of recommendations on this and other threads, we have personally used Direct Travel and Columbus Direct, both of whom were very competitive, Columbus being the better one when medical conditions had to be taken into account.0 -

So your saying insurance is pointless?Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -

Not at all. You need insurance but you need it as soon as your holiday is booked.
For example. Say if you've already booked your holiday leaving UK on 26 September, you will have paid a deposit of £XXX. You will have to pay the balance (usually) about 8-10 weeks before you fly out. If, heaven forbid, something happens to prevent you going - illness on either of you or a close relative - then if you have no insurance you will lose all that money and have no holiday. If you have taken out insurance as soon as holiday is booked then you are covered from the day you take it out, i.e. you would only lose the excess as long as the reason for your claim is covered.
Also you need insurance to cover any eventuality whilst you are away, e.g. if one of you is taken ill and you need medical care or even flying home with a nurse (expensive) then your insurance would cover it.
Some tour operators wont allow you to travel with them if you have no insurance.
Hope that makes it clearer.0
