It isn't an aviva type add on extra.
As previously posted they say they treat ash related delays as being weather related, and already cover this under their normal policies.
(As you already booked an expensive trip, you ought to have some cover in place already - especially for cancellation cover - no-one knows when they could be knocked down by a bus!)
Is Direct Travel one of the more customer-orientated insurers? What about Columbus Direct and AA Travel Insurance?
Just looking at quotes at the moment, but would want to avoid insurers who insist on pushing claimants to the ombudsman/court before paying up.0 -

Columbus direct look to be one to be wary of. Their only advantage seems to be they are cheap:

Just wondering if anyone knows of any travel insurance companies who will cover travelling abroad to take part in an amateur sports competition (volleyball, to be specific). I thought I'd found one as I took out a policy with Columbus which said it covered organised volleyball. However, I have now been told that they won't cover it if it's a competition.
I also need the policy to be open to people taking medication for minor medical conditions (either to cover those conditions or to provide medical cover as long as it's not related to pre-existing conditions).
I suggested companies where you duplicated this post elsewhere in the forum.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

My own experience with insurance companies means I won't put up with their silly delaying tactics and on one occasion when a "pay up in 7 days or receive court papers" letter was sent they stopped messing around.
Shame as AA was the most competitive so far, but Direct Travel seem to have better customer service and it's important that those companies are promoted.0 -
I got a quote yesterday off Columbus!! I had a chest infection 11 months ago which cleared up in a few days with some antibiotics from the doctors, also my daughter of 13 has heavy periods and is on medication so of course I told them..they want to load the policy by £53 to cover these two things. Daughter is inconveienced slightly for a few days each month and I am an aerobics teacher and don`t suffer from any chest complaints!! glad I read those reviews before persuing it.0
