We are looking at taking our a policy with Columbus or Direct Travel insurance as both seem to offer `some sort of volcanic ash cover`. Please does anyone now which might be the best of the two.
Columbus is more expensive but they do a nil excess where as I can`t see this option on the Direct Travel site. We also need to be covered for DIY holiday to Florida am I right in thinking this is covered by both.

Many thanks for any info anyone can help with.

    Hi,

i'm going to US with the family ( 2 adult = 2 children) this summer to a couple of different cities and also Disneyworld. I am looking for a insurance with a higher than normal cancellations cover. after going through this thread some people recomends Tesco, Post office or Fortis but the cover for cancellations in only £2000. I have checked the Premier policy of insurefor.com and it gives £5000 but first I am not sure how good they are and secondly I don't know if the cover events like BA strike ( sadly we have got the tickets with them).

    any suggestions please?

    thx

Just in case you weren't aware, the cancellation cover is per person on the policy.

Last time I checked you could purchase excess waiver from Direct Travel for £18 per person on an annual worldwide policy.

It's not on their website that I am aware of. I was quoted that on the phone.

They can also provide Scheduled Airline Failure insurance for an additional premium, which was only £2.50pp extra for us on an annual worldwide policy.

I haven't used Columbus Direct so can't compare. However Columbus wouldn't cover my PEMC's, but Direct Travel would so I went with them.

Insurefor - is Rock Insurance - they are as good as most. (Fortis is my fav - Stay well away from Axa & White Horse policies.

Check with any prospective IC to see if they cover BA strike BEFORE YOU BUY!

KATIESMUM (AND ANYONE) Don't forget Hurricaine coverage if you are comming to Florida in the summer (June 1 - Nov 30 Hurricaine season) - chances are you could get delay for that (although that is clearly weather related and the IC's can't wangle out so easily).

Just assumed that would be covered under `weather related` claims.
