  • Hi, my husband and me are returning to Egypt for 2 weeks, ages 71 and 64 respectively. I have been searching for travel insurance for us both and have received quotes from Staysure and Orbis, both include our medical conditions free, (high cholestrel, blood pressure, IBS), with one exception with Staysure, which does not cover hiatus hernia/reflux condition. I've never heard of either of these insurance companies and concerned with their credibility. Has anyone used them, or can advise on a reputable (cheapish)insurance company for over 60s, which include medical conditions. Have often used companies on web, but as I've never claimed, I don't know if they are bona fide, or not!

We are a familiy of four, including two kids (20&18). Last year we had a worldwide annual family cover (31 days total/year) with travelinsuranceweb for £63.99, which includes kids as they are still in college. Also allows for independent travel by all on the policy
I now need to renew it for this year and looking at options - I've checked and price is still the same, and levels of cover seem decent to0.

    Medical Expenses £10 million
    Cancellation £5,000
    Curtailment £5,000
    Baggage £2,500
    Cash & Documents £500
    Personal Liability £2 million

Is anyone aware of a better deal?

Is travelinsuranceweb reputable (before we find out we need to claim!)

    Thx.

    Jonny

TRAVELINSURANCEWEB - Are registered with the FSA - I have had no dealings with the underwriters (Astrenska).

My renewal for Club Direct Worldwide Insurance has just come through, annual multi-trip for 2 people at £45.

Is this a good deal as I can't find much info on the insurer and would hate to be stung for the sake of £50. Reason I am wary is my partner and I are touring America in the summer and I want decent cover should anything go wrong- quite a different trip to a package holiday.

    Thanks for any help

This policy (current anyway) is through First Assist and has One Claims as the claim handlers. Both are reasonable but nothing outstanding - you should be ok as long as you have adequate coverage for your needs.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any travel insurance companies who will cover travelling abroad to take part in an amateur sports competition (volleyball, to be specific). I thought I'd found one as I took out a policy with Columbus which said it covered organised volleyball. However, I have now been told that they won't cover it if it's a competition.

I also need the policy to be open to people taking medication for minor medical conditions (either to cover those conditions or to provide medical cover as long as it's not related to pre-existing conditions).

Hi, was wondering if anyone could recommend travel insurance for a single dad and his 2 year old daughter for a weeks holiday in Spain?

Aviva travel insuranc - just wondering what you think of the new optional add-on to its travel policy for protection for UK airspace, port or airport closure?
Are they a good company, we have booked a DIY holiday to florida flyng with US Airways, have booked seperate accomodtion, car hire etc. I don`t think they cover scheduled airline failure should that be a concern?
Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

If you do a search on mse (or across the net) you'll see aviva don't get many rave reviews for their customer service etc.

You can also get volcanic ash cover from direct-travel (just incorporated in their normal policy, no add on to buy). They say they are treating any ash problems as being "weather related" events.

Hi, thanks for replying. I thought Direct Travel were just paying out the normal ££ for 12/24 hour delays, sorry if I have misunderstood but havn`t seen any info on they will pay out on top of this for accomodation ete - either in UK or Florida.

Am I missing something, as they don`t seem to advertise it as extra cover that Aviva and Columbus are doing?

Sorry to be a bit thick..but just can`t get my head round all this, and as you can appreciate want the best policy for our holiday..with the best cover of course.

    Thanks

It isn't an aviva type add on extra.

As previously posted they say they treat ash related delays as being weather related, and already cover this under their normal policies.
If your flight has been cancelled or delayed, whether you are in the UK or abroad, in the first instance please contact your airline and/or travel company.
You can submit a claim under your Direct Travel Insurance policy for costs such as accommodation and transport that cannot be recovered from another source such as the airlines, tour operators, hotels etc

(As you already booked an expensive trip, you ought to have some cover in place already - especially for cancellation cover - no-one knows when they could be knocked down by a bus!)

    Thanks again,
I know we should have cover in place but when I decided to sort it the volcano ash became a problem so I decided to wait a while. Now I need to get it in place, I`ll definitely give Direct Travel a ring as from what I have read, many seem to recommend them.
