Hi,
In a months time I will be travelling across Bugaria, Romania and Hungary. I will be catching one internal flight while I'm there but will be relying on the less-than-reliable public transport to get me to the airport, at which point I will be catching a plane with a less-than-reliable airline.
I'm looking for a policy that will cover the eventuality that I miss my flight due to delay in getting to the airport or that my flight is delayed or cancelled allowing me to claim back the cost of travelling to another airport and getting a new flight (with me paying an excess).
Lots of policies seem to cover your entire holiday being cancelled but don't mention any journeys you might make while you on holiday.
Any advice or experiences would be really helpful! And I'll see you/ And you'll see me/ And I'll see you in the branches that blow/ In the breeze/ I'll see you in the trees/ Under the sycamore trees0 -
When I'm getting a quote for annual multi trip insurance and it asks for my travel dates, Im assuming this is just the dates of the next trip we are taking?
i.e we are going to the States from 8 Oct for 8 days. So I just put those eight days in those boxes right? I don't have to tell them of other trips after that, we have planned?
I can't understand for what purpose that information is needed.
Anyone any ideas?0 -
Just want to reiterate what gb57 posted.
Last year DH's appendix ruptured whilst we were in N Arizona. After a 235 mile medivac helicopter flight, 4 days on life support, a week in ICU, a further week in a ward and 4 operations (all in S Arizona), the travel insurance people tried to make out that it was a pre-existing medical condition.
We were very lucky that the hospital had a "treat first, money second" attitude and their chief social and welfare staff couldn't believe the attitude of our insurers, let alone the medics. We all took the attitude to laugh at the stupidity of the insurers, which probably saved my sanity.
The insurance was purchased through the AA, and when I rang them from the USA, they were fantastic. However, their agents in Canada who deal with North America are the most unreasonable, unhelpful and downright ignorant people with whom it has ever been my misfortune to deal. Luckily the British Embassy in LA and my Dad back here leaned heavily on the insurers to pay for upgraded flights for DH and we arrived back without paying a penny extra.
Just to add, it's almost a year on and DH looks and feels really well, apart from a stunning 7 inch scar down his tummy. It's just not worth keeping quiet about medical conditions as you never know what's around the corner.0 -
This travel insurance thing is a minefield and all the terms conditions and clauses that go with it are a lot to digest and go through so can anyone reccommend any good safe ones to use?
It's for my daughter 24 and her boyfriend 27 they are going to the South of France for 2 weeks on Sunday. I don't think they can have cover as a couple because they live in separate houses but they wont mind single cover anyway.
Her boyfriend is taking his own car on the eurotunnel and he will be driving for the first time abroad, will this make any difference to cover?
I think they have both applied for the EHIC card online a few days ago but it looks like it might not arrive before they leave tomorrow as they are leaving a day earlier to stay overnight at a relatives house as its closer to the eurotunnel than home. If it doesnt come tomorrow will it matter?Thanx

Just wanted to add to my previous post to ask
My daughters boyfriend has a problem with one of his eyes, he has seen a hospital specialist and is due to go back shortly for a progress update. The problem was he accidentally hit himself in the eye with a pool cue and it hasn't healed in almost a year so he is trying various creams to allow it to heal would this be classed as a pre condition should he declare it? He is able to drive with no problems
My daughter also has a muscle or nerve injury in her back which happened when she tried to lift something on her shoulder 9 years ago, she didnt go to the doctors at the time, she felt weaker but just thought it was because it had to heal. She often had pain in one area so went to see if a massage would help and they told her she had a grissely lump under her shoulderblade. She realised she couldnt put her hand behind her back and stretch her fingers up like most people can so she then went to the doctors who sent her for physio but they said they are unsure of exactly what it is, it could be nerve or muscle damage. They gave her exersizes and after some weeks said it probably would not improve. She carries on life normally and you'd never know there was anything wrong, she still has back ache and almost no strength in her right arm which was her strongest before. She now uses her left arm most of the time even though that is weak as she is naturally right handed. She still writes with her right hand and can do things with it and even drives but its just anything with any slight weight she cant pick up with her right hand.
Sorry for blurburing on but would they class any of these as pre conditions? After the physio she was never sent for any tests or called back to he doctorsThanx

Baybee1984 wrote: »Am currently shopping around for decent travel insurance for as cheap as poss.. my OH seems to think hes covered thru his bank so am just looking for me and my 4 year old, for our holiday next May, to Ibiza.
Looked on moneysupermarket.com, best quote was £11.90 from Direct Travel Insurance, has anyone used these before??
I tried confused.com but because I hadnt made a travel insurance claim in the last 3 yrs I was classed as 'special circumstances' and bought up a site, think it was called gotravel that quoted £11 but didnt tell me what cover included..
Just wondered what your thoughts were..
Hey just spotted ur ad might be good to check ur OH insurance as i read on one of these threads somewhere bank account travel ins only covers when the holiday/hotels/flights etc were paid for via the bank in question... although some just cover anyway. (just a thought)0 -
Hi all,
I was recently delayed by 4 hours on a flight from Manchester to Dubai which meant that I missed my connecting flight to Male. Since there is only 1 flight a day, I arrived at my final destination a full 24 hours late!!!
I tried to claim from my current travel insurance but they told me that since my flight was only delayed by 4 hours from the UK and not 12 then I am not entitled to claim for my pre-paid hotel night that I did not use. I am now going to cancel this travel insurance.
So, I'm looking for travel insurance that actually looks into the date and time one was supposed to arrive at the final destination and calculates delay based on that.
Anybody got any ideas?

I am planing a trip which is 31 days long, so is an annual policy which last 31 days enough?
IE what if trip is delayed and we do not get back until 32nd day and then something happens?
Also not taking trip until Jan, thinking of an annual policy as will be taking a few uk trips next year, when should i take out insurance from?
Thanks0
