    Hi
I have had to cancel my holiday to Turkey due to my husbands ill health.
I have bought £600 worth of Turkish lire and to buy it back I would lose £90 on the conversion.
a)Would the insurance cover me for the loss of this?
    b) Is there any way I can et a beter buy back rate ? (than the Post office)
    Anyone any ideas?
Or any way to recover the full cost

Sounds about right unfortunately. The buy back rate is always lower than the rate they sell at.

a)Would the insurance cover me for the loss of this?

Unlikely but check your policy or speak to the insurance company and explain the position.

    b) Is there any way I can et a beter buy back rate ? (than the Post office)

Check the rates at the different banks and see which has the best rate.
  • Hi everyone

I really hope you can help, I m about to start doing some searches but I thought I'd put this out there as the thread is so helpful regarding things like pre existing conditions.

I've just had my elderly aunt on the phone ever so upset because my uncle who is 81 this year has just been turned down for travel insurance. Their daughter lives in the States and they would just be devastated if they were no longer able to visit her. Does anybody know of any good insurers for the over 80s with pre existing conditions? He has well controlled angina and eplilepsy. He's not had a fit for 15 years, never had a heart attack, never had cancer, has no upcoming hospital appts and is generally fit and well.

Any advice would be very very much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

I've just booked a short holiday to Spain and am looking at what insurance to get. My American Express Platinum Card provids travel insurance as a benefit (although I only booked the hotel - not the flight - with my card so I'm not sure whether I'd be covered). However, I read that the insurance you get through your credit card often isn't very good. The cover looks okay to me but would it be advisable to book additional cover? What are usually the problems/exclusions when you rely on the insurance provided by your credit card?

I had a car accident in India. The total cost due to that was £4,000+. I came back and made a claim, and they were very helpful and I had received the money back.

I didn't buy the tickets on my Amex (which I do now). And most importantly I didn't pay the bills via Amex for the hotel.

But keep in mind, Amex are MUCH more helpful in the west (and probably the best in the UK/Hong Kong/USA).
  • Just booked a trip to Morocco with Explore and agreed to their annual travel policy, at a cost of £189 for a couple. Mentioned I had high blood pressure (well controlled by tablets) and my husband has low thyroid (similarly controlled) and was told to phone and tell the insurer direct. Did so, to be told no related conditions would be covered - eg for me - heart problems or a stroke. Needless to say I cancelled (being within the allowed time) Just off to moneysupermarket to check out the position on the best policies there.

I said I had declared these issues with other insurers previously with no such problems and they said their policy wording had recently changed. Hope that is not universal!

  • Well - after trying 3 companies have insured with Cover my travel - simple questions, good price - half the Explore quote that wouldn't cover pre existing. Another surprise - one company I spoke to wanted an extra £11 because we would spend one day walking through the Todra gorge - apparently gorge walking is a dangerous activity - that just wouldn't have occurred to me and shows how you must read the small print carefully

Many thanks to MSE and Moneysupermarket - saved me £90 and gave me peace of mind!!

  • Hi, hoping there is someone out there who can help me with finding a reputable/reasonably priced travel insurance to cover my condition Parkinsons?

My husband (56) and I (57) have a trip to Chile, Argentina and Brazil booked for next April 2009. No hazardous activities! My husband is fit and well so only my condition, stable, regular check ups/medication and still pretty well benign after 10 years.

I already have an ANNUAL policy (EUROPEAN ONLY) with INSUREANDGO, which will cover our trip to Spain in 2 weeks time. This runs out in Feb 2009, so either way will not cover us.

    I need either a SINGLE/ANNUAL TRIP WORLWIDE?

Also if I want CANCELLATION cover I will have start it now, so in effect I will not only have 2 policies running alongside each other, but also be paying
    2 premiums.

Any useful advice would be very much appreciated. THANKS
  • i'm looking at getting a standard worldwide annual policy - the cheapest on moneysupermarket is from cheaper.travelinsurance.co.uk. i've never heard of them.... anyone any opinions? for £5/£10 extra i'm happy to go with someone that i've heard of, or is that just me not knowing much about it and being paranoid?

Hiya. All insurance policies ask if there is a pre-existing condition. I thought I would check the definitions to get clarity on this. None was forthcoming. Am I safe to presume that 'pre-existing medical condition' does not include a bout of tonsilitis I had about three months ago which required medication?

Don't assume anything. I called a company today re a pre-existing condition. They would give me a policy, but not cover the condition.

He asked if I had any other conditions and I jokingly said that I was waiting to see about an ingrown toe nail. He said that wouldn't be covered while I was waiting to see about it and that once I had seen about it/had it done that I would have to declare it as a pre-existing condition!

I started to read their policy online and one of the first things I noticed was that they don't provided any cover for "the use of intoxicating drink". As most people enjoy a drink on holiday that would make their policy invalid should they need to claim.
