Hi, its me again,
i really appreciate all the suggestions. I have tried every one of them. Able2travel were the most helpful-they said halfway through the medical screening that there wasn't much point carrying on as they knew it wouldn't be any good.
Medici were ok with the conditions until i mentioned that my oh has been on an anti-depressant becuse he was getting really down with his illnesses. he is very soon to come off the tablet but they said that I would be very lucky to find anyone to insure him because of the depression. i mean, if you can cancer, then a heart attack and triple bypass, then were told you were diabetic, and finally had to have a (successful) hernai op, I think you wouldn't be human if you weren't a teenie bit depressed.
He is perfectly fit to travel (his GP would write & confirm this, and as he says, he's had more tests and things fixed to A1 condition than the average bear, so he should be safer to insure?
sorry, but it makes me cross!
Anyway, I have a little good news in that All Clear WILL cover him AND all his conditions. The catch? £2050!
I'm beginning to feel defeated.....
I must have been mad to have booked the holiday before getting insurance.
The daft thing is that 18months ago, SAGA insured us for a 3 wk trip to St Lucia, and In Tune for a long stay to Tunisia. They won't take a chance on a 127 day holiday though.
Anyone want to buy some Virgin Atlantic tix to St Lucia?.....

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at MSE. Thanks to your advice I've managed to get insurance with bmc.co.uk, the mountaineering club. I have paid £292 for an annual policy which includes extended stays, and I was able to meet all the medical criteria as everything has been stable for at least 12 months. On top of that we have had to join the club for any extra £14.75 each (its half price until Sept) but I think even with that its a good deal. Much better than £2050 from Allclear!
So, St Lucia here we come!
Thanks to everyone once again. i couldn't have done it without you.

I take a 2-3 month holiday in Spain each year. In the past I could cover this with an annual multi-trip travel insurance with a 120 day then, when I reached my 60's, a 90 day maximum trip duration. Now coming up 69 I can only find policies with a maximum of 45 days. Can anyone point me to an insurer who will give at least a 60day trip duration in a European annual travel insurance policy. I have stabley controlled diabetes but no other health problems.
I need similar cover for my comprehensive car insurance and breakdown cover whist in Europe.0 -

Someone on here recently mentioned Covermytravels do a policy which covers trips of 92 days - not sure about age restrictions as I've not used them but worth a phone call.
Sorry, can't help with the car/breakdown insurance.0 -
My OH and I were looking at taking the Ultimate Rewards thing with the Halifax. Primarily due to the travel insurance they offer. We are flying to Canada in Oct and staying with relatives, then next year flying to Florida and staying in a villa (so all "independent travel").
I've seen a few comments that bank "bundled" travel insurance is only available if you book your travel using the bank accounts you have. While this is not a problem for Canada, my in-laws have arranged the holiday next year.
Can anyone advise? As advertised in a newspaper (Telegraph I think), AXA offer "independent" travel insurance, but I haven't found anyone else that explicitly mentions this.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -
Hi guys, I am travelling to Majorca with my girlfriend on the 26/9/2008 to the 3/10/2008 and found a policy on Moneysupermarket.com for £6.26 each. I am completely new to this and have no clue as to what to look for. I dont wanna skimp on cover, but dont wanna overspend either. I have got this one so far, which is seemingly OK. However could somebody confirm if this is OK. We aren't sports nuts or anything like that. We are 21 and 23. And will be taking about £600 each. The only valuables will be jewellery which I and my partner may be wearing and a digital camera worth about £100 and thats it. Can someone advise if this policy is OK? Also, I have a referral to the hospital in october for nosebleeds, but surely this isn't something that would affect insurance as it isn't life threatening or something I am likely to be rushed to hospital with *touch wood*.
Things I am covered for here
Any advice would be great, cheers guys.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -

Have you checked out Martin's article on travel insurance here . It gives minimum levels of cover if you scroll down to "Don't over-cover" so you can compare with the one you're thinking of.
Regarding your referral to hospital, you must mention this. I don't know all the causes of nosebleeds but you can be sure that if an insurance company can link it to anything they will. Any recent medical matters and pending referrals need to be mentioned, insurance companies have a canny way of wriggling out of paying out a claim if this sort of information is left out regardless of whether it is connected to the reason you are making your claim. Not mentioning something can void your policy.
Also, get that insurance in place ASAP. Ideally it should be done as soon as you book your holiday. From the day you book your holiday ANYTHING can happen which could necessitate you cancelling it and unless your insurance is in place you could end up losing your deposit or, worse still, the whole cost of your holiday if you have already paid for it (which is usually about 10 weeks before travel).0 -
My daugthers fly to and from Scotland about 5 times a year..... they go to school there. What type of insurance should they have for travelling? It only really needs to cover the actual flights/train/bus ride every thing else is covered.0
