Wow, your pepper plants look great. When did you plant the seeds? My plants are still quite small and no sign of any flowers yet.

Actually, I thought my pepper seeds had failed so I bought these 3 from Wilko's as plug n gro's in about March I guess, they all had 2 leaves so I practically have done everything. Only thing is now I have 5 other plants from my seeds which finally grew! none have flowers on those yet but they all have about 20 leaves and are just as tall as these ones. I have been giving them to family and friends who are very grateful!

SusieMum - those peppers are incredible. Did you grow them indoors or in a heated greenhouse? I sowed mine in mid February indoors and they're now out in my mini plastic greenhouse. But the biggest one is about 12 inches high and just showing its first flowers whilst the smallest is still only 5 inches high and looks permanently stunted. . All sown on the same day in the same conditions in the same compost. Very puzzling.
  • Hi all, this thread is so inspiring.

What could I be sowing or planting outside now?

Wow thank you and I am such a novice so I have amazed myself! No heated thingys here, just a hot porch, with lots of light and water, now they go outdoors on a warm day (just to give me some space!!) then back inside the summer house/shed which is quite warm I suppose.

    I have a question

i planted peas and runner beans at the same time (approx 2/3 weeks ago), the peas are doing nicely, although not all have come through.....
but the runner beans are no where to be seen.......

question: do runner beans take longer to sprout and push through than peas.....?

also... ive got another cucumber come through.... 2nd lot of peppers havent though.....urrrgh
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Gingernut - you can be sowing lettuce and other salad leaves outside now. It's too late to sow tomato seeds to get any sort of crop but if you buy the plants they can be planted outdoors in early June. You can sow runner beans & dwarf French beans outdoors now but if you sow in compost in pots you have a better chance of them germinating and not getting eaten by slugs before they peek through the soil. You can also sow courgettes, Swiss Chard, spinach, radishes spring onions, carrots.
Robnye - runner beans germinate better if soaked for 8 hours in water before planting. It's not too late to sow again if you planted yours in the soil as they may have been eaten by slugs.

I've successfully grown some sugar snap peas and am wondering if its time to put them out yet. They're about 3 inches tall.I bought some pea netting and was going to put them in a long pot with the pea netting behind the pot attatched to canes. Also,do i put slug pellets down and do i need to put any other type of netting over them.
