Hi
In my first year and a wealth of knowledge on this site so thanks first and foremost.
As I am completely new to this what could I start growing now? Indoors or outdoors?
Indoors - would need to be something on a window ledge
Outdoors - something in pots
I live in South Wales and ideally i'd like to stick to Herbs, Veg or Fruit
Can you please reply with some ideas? (remember i'm new to this so go easy)
Thanks
Paul

you are a bit late to be planting toms from seed now - go to your local market and buy a few plants -- they will be getting cheaper now, less than £1 each easily.
Look for something like tumbling tom (red or yellow) or minibel for in pots and hanging baskets and you will have tomatoes in no time!0 -
Almost everything, but not chillies, tomatoes (although I wrote somewhere else about keeping them to a couple of trusses which should work), melons and aubergines. Go and buy these plants from garden centres.
Everything else you should still be able to sow.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Out of all the things I grow, the most used have got to be my windowsill herbs. I've got coriander, chives, basil and mint and I must use a bit of something everyday. Easy to grow from seed any time of year too.0

You could grow some mange tout peas in pots, and sow another pot of them in a few weeks to keep a succession goingJust call me Nodwah the thread killer0

You can grow all the main herbs as already mentioned. Peas, lettuce/mixed salad leaves, spinach, radishes, spring onions, beetroot, carrots, mini sweetcorn, french beans, runner beans, butternut squash (you will need a pyramid of canes in the pot for runner beans and squash).

Ensure you sow in a deep container or choose round carrots to avoid them forking. Use good compost or stoneless soil. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
