I used some smaller plastic and metal sticks (just bits and bobs I found lying around) in the ground, just left 3/4 inches sticking up, and fitted the pipe down on to them.

Thanks!! I'll look out for some!! ;)

    Hi All

I'm growing some California Wonder sweet peppers on pots on the bedroom windowsill and they're flowering now.

Will they fertilise themselves, or do I need to get busy with the paintbrush?

I don't get many bees in the bedroom :D

I think peppers are self fertile but by the time mine are flowering they're outside on a patio where passing insects has help do the job, so a light touch with a very fine paintbrush will probably help the the process along. Also misting with a very fine spray will help.

    Thanks Primrose.

Might have to invest in a new spray. The one I was using to soapy-spray the aphids on the balcony doesn't adjust down to all that fine a spray these days.

I just haven't any more room outside, and it would probably be too windy for them anyway.

Must get around to posting a piccy or two then you lovely helpful souls will have some idea of what I'm struggling with. I'm sure on paper I should only really be able to grow a few salad crops, but I'm stubborn. And poor!

    Hi Gina

I am full of good intentions, but with work commitments having exploded recently, I have yet to resurrect my apotment on the balcony, I'm ashamed to admit. I did pick up 6 free Elsanta strawberry plants from Homebase via the Mail, which went out there, and last week (so late, I know!) sowed some tomato and pepper seeds in pots on the window ledge, but I'm afraid that's as far as I've got. I really neeed to get planting, but I can't get away from my desk these days. Most of the tomatoes have germinated already (but not the Sub-Arctic yet, strangely).

My mint, raspberry and lovage pots have all resurrected themselves, having looked utterly dead, so that's some encouragement.

Hope others are better organised and will reap the rewards of the summer we have been promised (again)
