Thanks Lotus-Eater, but though the design seems to work well I'm still very much learning how best to grow different crops, intercrop and how to beat (or live with) mealy aphid, slugs, changing soil ph etc. After a break of 20 years I started to grow veg seriously again 4 years back and am still very much learning by my mistakes.
Mrs M, *deep sigh* what can I say, I love cooking too, (could this be a source of conflict?) especially for my oh and ds2, and dd1, dd2 and ds1 when they visit, and the 3 gds (soon 4?) who might not appreciate gf's new friend moving into their house. Some things were perhaps never meant to be, even though you obviously have very green fingers
. Remember, when talking about a garden, its not size that matters, its what you do with it
Angela, garden was neglected for 6 months from last August while we sorted out 5 ground floor rooms ruined by an underfloor leak. You should have seen the weeds before we started to get back on track in early March! Still, its looking better now, though would like some calmer weather to allow veg and ornamental plantings to establish in these and the other areas that we've changed
thanks all,

What a frustrating wet, windy weekend!
I too feel very protective of my tomato plants which are currently being hardened off. I forgot to bring them in on Friday night and worried about them when I realised. DH said they'd probably be knocking on the patio doors asking to come in!:rotfl:
Sadly it looks like the wind has badly damaged 2 of my cucumber plants that were also being hardened off. :mad:The leaves were literaly blown off - so tonight I've planted 4 new seeds in the lounge window which I hope will grow quickly.
On the underside of my potato plant leaves it looks like I've got aphids. Any ideas to eradicate?
Lets hope the sun comes out so my tomatoes can finally get planted outside in their growbag.:jMortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000

On the left of your pictures there are a number of codes, I think you need to copy and paste the IMG code in to your message. :money:They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -
The Bees: I've been doing reasonably well just squirting the aphids off with a spray of water & washing up liquid, only a few drops of the latter. I spray with one hand and wipe/crush the little blighters with the other, leaf by leaf. I had aphids on my broad beans, and after a couple of days of the above - I went back in case I'd missed any or they'd climbed back, they seem to have gone. I now patrol all the pots in case of further infestation, and have my trusty laundry spray gun on standby.0

Thanks Hathor
I'll be trying the washing up liquid treatment in the next couple of days.:DMortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000
