I got the idea from my Mum's cat: she used to travel around the house to doze in whatever patch of sunlight was available. I've even seen her curled up when it struck the landing window at an oblique angle, enjoying the only single square foot of sun-warmed carpet in the place!
I've put a ROS seed soaking in warm water in the sunshine, and I've got a black pot warming in the sunshine as well - not that it won't go cold again overnight, but it's bagged a place in the windowsill - all ready for tomorrow. Then it will have to be the hottie, as I've no airing cupboard to put it in.
At least OUR food miles are ORGANICALLY-POWERED! How green is that? Bio-fuels? Tish!0 -
Afternoon all
Thought I would do an update -now I actually have things growing
1 of my 2 dustbins of sweetpotatoes coming on nicely :j
6 of my peppers that have just moved out into the cold frame where its nice and humid -they have come on much better now they are out thereI have the 15 I grew from a pepper in the fridge to pot on in the hope they will catch up
1 of the cucumbers that went out first and seems to be doing ok -all the others are out now too:T
Some of my first attempts at mini caulis -they will need moving on soon to give a bit more room
1 of my brussels -nomnomnom :rotfl:
some of the first tomatoes to go out -I now have 40 out and just 2 left to pot up :rotfl:-I know they aren't very tall as I pot most of the stem underground -but they are really healthy n sturdy:D
and finally -the first produce to hit our plate this year -we had them yesterday :j
All the cucumbers, tomatoes and squashes that are out are still living behind wind breaks of fleece -and they all seem happy enough :j -so now I just have the courgettes in the house which Im hoping to pot out this week along with the other peppers and aubergines in the cold frame. I have set soooooooooooo many beans n peas -many of which are now starting to peep out from the compost, I can't wait for them to get going as then all my arches and structures wil be a mass of greenery :T
Hope everyone else is having a productive time of it-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Potatoes - these are growing so quickly by the day!
I also have cauliflower, brussel sprouts in the growhouse, but not very interesting to look at. My sweetcorn haven't done anything...Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044! Those strawberries look healthy! I've just got some alpine strawberry seeds germinating: some of them are through, but they're TINY!
Anybody know how many I should put in a 12in hanging basket when they get a bit bigger? My basket is the solid kind, not one of those you can poke plants through the sides of.0 -

So lovely and productive at the moment thankyou
I would like to be able to say that the tomatoes in the salad were also grown in the garden. while I can grow a mean tomato (especially when it's left without water for a while, gets very upset about that) this time of year is a bit early, even for me, I don't know where the tomatoes came from in the salad, probably "weproducetranslucentredcrappytomatoesthatdon'ttasteofanything" land.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
The chickens have eaten my radish seedlings and the ants have ruined one of my gooseberries, which has dropped all of it's fruitlets, but the lettuce and rhubarb is stunning!!! Yum, yum, scoff, scoff...."carpe that diem"0
