Time to show you my mainly potted up garden, I haven't persuaded the kids to give up their climbing frame in favour of a small plot area yet
Tomatoes (not sure whether they were Roma or Pomdora), one of 2 reusable grow bags.
From left to right, Dwarf French Bean, Sunflower, Dwarf French Bean and then 3 Dwarf Broad Beans.
Mixture of purple carrots, spinach, spring onion, sage, lettuce, purple brocolli, thyme, chilli's, 1st year strawberries and chant carrots.
Dwarf Broad Beans and Celery.
Banana Shallots and Sprouts.
Elsewhere in various pots I have potatoes, second year strawberries and 4 hanging baskets with tumbling tomatoes in...not bad for my first stab at this since I was a kid going to my Dad's allotment. They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -
This is what the main area of mine looks like atm.

In beds in other areas I have potatoes and all the alliums. Plus all my fruit bushes.
Nice photo of my poached egg flowers.

Looking good everyone!
Lotus-eater, are they cabbages or spinach under the uncovered cloche in the second bed over? They look like they are thriving.
I will have to post a few photos for you all. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Summer cabbages I think.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Those strawberries look healthy! I've just got some alpine strawberry seeds germinating: some of them are through, but they're TINY!
Anybody know how many I should put in a 12in hanging basket when they get a bit bigger? My basket is the solid kind, not one of those you can poke plants through the sides of.
I have 2 alpines in mine. But they are 3 years old now and quite big.0 -
Thanks for that Jack's Mum. My tiny seedlings are only just showing their first true leaf, so they're not ready for re-potting just yet. I think I'll put 3 or 4 of them together if you've got 2 3-year olds out there. Mine are only toddlers at the moment.0

Hi all, I've spent a few late nights reading this thread from the start and got loads of useful info & inspiration. Thanks!:T Haven't read for a week or so (friend in hospital), so need to catch up again!
I recently planted some free seeds and have now repotted a load of them in loo rolls & newspaper rolls etc (great tip!). I'm not sure about the basil though. It currently looks like cress, in an egg box on the kitchen window sill. Does each little seed/plant grow into a big plant? I've taken 2 out and put them in individual loo rolls to see what happens. I've got some paint pots (new house & stony broke) that I was going to line with plastic, drill holes in and put soil in. Would I put all my basil seedlings (one side of an eggbox full) in a 2.5l tin or just one seedling? Alternatively I have a 15l tin, would they all go in there?
I cleared most of my front and back gardens last year - it was a 10 yr old jungle, and now have horsetail springing up (back) and couch grass (front). I'm not that worried about the front, as going to be doing some heavy duty work there shortly. However, don't have time/money to tackle the back yet. Thick black plastic hasn't worked so I was thinking of laying an offcut of carpet down. I heard it shouldn't be foam backed carpet. Now do I lay it pile side up or down - or doesn't it matter?
Apologies if these questions sound really daft!
Thanks - Al0
