Do not use http://www.wirelessunlocks.net/index.html
I originally asked them to unlock a phone for me ion 8th December 2008 and was attracted to the site as it them offered a full refund if they could not unlock your phone. I paid £4.69 via paypal and received an email a couple of days later saying that they couldn't unlock it. No refund appeared or was sent by post as promised by their refund dept, so I emailed yet again and was given a reference number in case of further problems. Still no refund and several emails later nothing. I re read the refund policy and they asked that to actually get a refund you had to send a letter by post. I duly did this and since then and a further to emails from me i haven't even had any response. I checked the web site today and they don't offer refunds for failed unlocks, but surely as they did when i took out my contract with them in early December surely they should honour it?.
What really annoys me is that there is no phone number for them, they just ignore emails and letters.
Not a great company, steer clear.
• Hi, I just got screwed by this scamming company unlocksearch.com. I got my money back instantly but that is not the point. I note that the first post in this thread is over a year ago so they have clearly been operating a long time.
I complained to Paypal and received the following:-
" Thank you for contacting us.
I have reviewed your account and I can see that you have already received af ull refund for this case, no further action is required by you.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Sincerely,
John
"
I complained again and received this:-
" Thank you for contacting PayPal.
PayPal is committed to maintaining the privacy of its members. For this
reason, we have a very strict Privacy Policy.
To view our Privacy Policy click on the 'Privacy' link at the bottom of any
PayPal page.
If you have further questions, please click on the 'Contact Us' link.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Judita "

This says to me that Paypal know whats going on but they are happy to let it continue. I will complain again but I think I have been well and truly brushed off!

My local phone shop told me the other day, over the phone, that it would cost around 60 quid to get my blackberry storm unlocked. The cheapest i have found on the internet is 8 quid, and the most expensive on the net is 20. Why on earth do they charge 60 quid?!

Hi All, yes I got caught too! Read this too late. BUT......... it seems unlocksearch's T&C's are their downfall............ why?

Because the T&C's form part of the contract between the supplier and purchaser. Their T&C's state:
4.1 We are registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 for Data Protection purposes. Any information that you provide to us is treated as confidential. The following applies to any information you provide to us, for example during any registration or ordering process:

But having checked with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) they can find no such registration record for unlocksearch.com or variations of such. Therefore IMHO the T&Cs provide information upon which you relied to enter into the contract (registration leading you to the reasonable opinion this company is reputable, and therefore that you were prepared to do business, when this was not the case.)

Also the distance selling regulations allow you to cancel a contract within a reasonable period, this is NOT disallowed by unlocksearch.com T&C's. Therefore cancel under the distance selling regs and get a refund!

The only problem............... they provide no address or contact info, but if I remember correctly this is also an offence too under the Business Names Act

The Act applies to:
• an individual who trades under a name which is not his or her surname. It makes no difference whether the individual's first names or initials are added. So the Act would apply to Mr JQZ Singh if he traded as 'Singh Antiques' but not if he traded as 'Singh' or 'JQZ Singh'.
• a partnership which uses a specific business name and does not trade under the names of all the partners; and
• a company or Limited Liability Partnership, which trades under a name which is not its corporate name, for example, 'J Smith Limited' trading as 'Fish Antiques'.
It goes on to advise:
If the Business Names Act 1985 applies to you (see chapter 1, question 3) then you must comply with all the disclosure rules. For example, if Mr W Jones trades as 'W Jones Bakery', then the disclosure rules of the Business Names Act apply. Disclosure rules also apply to incorporated companies that trade under a different name, for example, ABC Foods Limited trading as ABC Foods.
Incorporated companies must also comply with the disclosure rules of the Companies Act 1985. These include the way a name must be displayed on correspondence, documents, place of inspection and websites. The Companies (Trading disclosures) Regulations 2008 (Statutory Instrument 2008/495) introduces further changes from 1 October 2008.

So it would appear that the owner of unlocksearch.com has commited an offence.
I for one can find no such disclosure on the website. Can anyone else?

I have emailed asking for the following:

Details of the owner/s as required to be supplied by the Business names act.
Details of the Business address as required by the Business names act.
Details of the data protection registration.
The fact I am rejecting the service/goods under the ;Sale and Supply of goods and services act', and also the 'Distance selling regulations'.

I'll let you know how I get on, but now we are in the realms of the law! Don't get mad..... get reading.

UPDATE: ************************

Sent the following via email:

Hi,

I recently used your website for a mobile phone unlocking service.

I am advising you I am rejecting the service under the Distance Selling Regulations and the Sale and Supply of Goods and Services act.

Please refund my payment card with immediate effect.

Also, please provide the following information, which I cannot find on your website:

Details of the business owner/s as required to be supplied by the Business names act.
Details of the business address as required by the Business names act for service of notice.
Details of the data protection registration (registration number) you refer to in your terms and conditions.

Many Thanks

I have emailed a "Notice of Cancellation" and asked for a full refund under the "Distance Selling Regulations".

Hey, Just checked my emails. They have agreed to refund!
"Unlock Search has agreed to grant a 4.59 GBP refund to settle this dispute.
It may take up to 5 working days for the refund amount to appear in your
account. This dispute will then be closed."

That took just 17 minutes from raising the dispute on Paypal to recieving the agreement!
• Hi

I got duped by this site as well. i raised a dispute via paypal and got my £4.59 back straight away. this site should be removed as a sponsored link on ebay which is where i found it so i will be reporting them to ebay straight away.
