A smaller ipod has just been announced. Holds around 1000 songs, has a color display. You may be able to get cheaper ipod minis soon. Not on the apple site yet but will be there later tonight.

Apple store for Education : 2Gb £128 black £139 white ( Why the difference ???) / 4Gb £164.50 delivered. Can anyone find them cheaper ? (excluding eBay)

I think you'll have to wait until other shops get them in stock if you want a better price than that. At the moment it's only on the Apple store - the sellers on eBay don't even have them, they've ordered from Apple, just chancing a quick profit.
