Yikes - I go away for a long weekend and then couple days of work, and come back to find way too many posts on this brilliant thread to keep up! (Am working to a writing deadline in 2 weeks... so will resist the temptation to read more....)
Have copied a few of the recipes. Last week the night before going away (slightly mad as it meant staying up late to pack, but oh well) I baked up the lemon madeira cake and the hobnobs. Hobnobs disappeared like that, there's still a bit of cake left, but that's only because the friend we went away with eventually asked us to hide the containers of goodies as she was trying to eat less of them! So thanks for those, will try some of the more recent ones soon I hope.
By the way, I used non-dairy spread in both (we had almost 2 tubs sitting around and said friend is avoiding dairy), and they were still very good. Next time I try the cake though, I'll bake it for slightly less, and probably use marg or even butter.
Have updated my sig here... though it doesn't include what DH has spent this week on his lunches. (We had a few meals out over the weekend but those came out of holiday money.) And we've just got our fruit and veg box in for the week.
rock on money savers!

Thanks for the replies re the turkey, I never thought to use the cereal inner so will try that thank you:D will also look at lakeland in a min...
Been in the kitchen for 2 hours baking:rolleyes: more oat biscuits (make them now before they get back from school otherwise:rotfl: ) the chocolate orange muffins and an almond cake, there looks masses there on the side but when the two boys and their friends get amongst it:rolleyes:
I am going to bake the biscuits for the little ones birthday at the end of the month as he loves them so and his friends come round to eat my fairy cakes (one of them always says to me ' I wish my mum would make me cakes', he gets extra because I feel sorry for him, he is only 6 and his mum is obviously not a baker:rolleyes: )0 -

Ever since I read this a few weeks ago I've been collecting them in a drawer in my kitchen. I'm going to be overrun eventually.:rotfl: I can't remember which thread it was, but some people had some really good uses for the inners. If I remember Mrs Mc might have been a contributor to the thread0 -
MrsM,
Just echoing what everyone else has said ~sending you and your sister best wishes.0 -
MrsM- Hope your sister responds to the treatment, my thoughts are with you.
Got a big pan of chillli on the go, need to get a bigger pan i think with all this bulking i'm doing:rotfl: Will make some of that yummy looking cheesy herb bread to go with it:DThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Just a thought - would it be an idea to have a separate recipe thread somewhere, so we don't have to go through lists of posts to find the recipes when people post them? (OK so I guess you can search the thread for a specific recipe... but would this help anyway?)

Mrs Mc hope you're sister's ok. my thoughts and prayers are with you :A
well, i was on the no-spend-this-week challenge, but i couldn't manage it  been doing so much baking lately, i was desperate to re-stock flour, eggs sugar etc so a trip to Mr Asda put paid to £29.01.....mind you, i had £6 of vouchers so the bill went down to £23.01 :j the £6 bonus went on chocolate, and its now well hidden ( in me knicker drawer cos DS14 won't go in there!! :rotfl:)
well its still a nice afternoon, apart from the sea breeze (my house is practically on the sea-front) so i might go outside and earth up the potatoes some more, and re-pot the lettuces....think i've got too many to a tub so they're not growing as well as they should be
hope you're all wearing your suncream and making the most of this lovely weather0 -
Well have come home from work with a bad back today (I've got a wonky shoulder blade so it means that all the muscles in my back are wonky too!) Sitting in an office all day just makes me seize up so here I am at home. Slowly pottering in the kitchen trying to keep active to get things working again
I'm meant to be doing the moonwalk in London on 17th May to raise money for breast cancer so fingers crossed I can walk properly by then!!!
We're having Quorn fajitas tonight so I'll be making Mrs M's tortillas to go with them. Am tempted to make up two batches and then have some for lunches for the next couple of days. I can't remember if I asked before, but can you freeze them? (either uncooked or cooked?)
Lots of people talking about IPTW at work today. Some of them could quite understand how she spent £260 a week. I personally thought it was just a bit careless!! especially as she seemed to be throwing stuff away a lot of the time. I was listening to the news on the radio at lunchtime and there was a segment about it on there as well. One woman was saying how she would throw away a sandwich that her child didn't eat or a yoghurt that was opened but untouched. Is it just me that would probably cover it in cling film and put it back in the fridge for when they wanted it later? (within reason of course - if it had been sat out in the warmth for a while then I might not!)
Someone asked about how to save money if you're already on the cheapest versions of products - I think it's just about making things go further really. Bulking things out with oats/lentils or getting BOGOFs or whoopsies for things. I know that there are some people who water down their washing up liquid and shampoo. (I have no idea how that works cos I wouldn't have thought it would mix properly with water but if anyone does, please let me know!!)
