    good afternoon all,

But it was my little boys 1st bday last sunday. Which signals the end of breast feeding for him. He's dealing with it really well. I ,on the other hand, am just feeling really dejected. I love breastfeeding and he's my last baby. I know feeding til a year is a little extreme to some anyway but no matter when you stop you suddenly start wondering if you'll mean as much to your little one as you did before. He's my 3rd so i should be used to it but alas i still feel rubbish.

I know how you feel my two girls gave up breastfeeding themselves at 11 and 13 months but my son the 3rd just didn't want to give up so he continued till 18 months. (only 1 in morning and 1 in evening) when on the way back from Eurodisney I said that's it and the next evening put him to bed without a breastfeed. The look I got as I left the room said it all (excuse me but haven't you forgotten something and pointed to the bed - where I fed him!!!) Didn't seem to mind after that, but it took me a while to get overit- he's my last as well. I wasn't going to pay for milk and it was nice to cuddle up together likewise I use reusable nappies and it has saved me a fortune and the enviroment. (total spend on 3 kids £200!!!:rotfl: ) Even though I'm a MSE newbie maybe it is in my blood:D

Been to butchers lovely free range pork ribs ( with hardly any rib bones in them -all meat:rotfl: ) and done asda shop this week I usually go weekly but next month will try to do one big shop. But I was good stuck to list except for whoopsied fish but sister had 1/2 so total spend was under £50 A first for me:j Will udate signature when I come back later!
Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

Hugs Mrs M and hugs to your sister too.

I've added another tenner to my total as spent the afternoon in A&E with DS - turned out he's just sprained his wrist to match the ankle he sprained last week. Anyway, got calpol, pizza and some fruit on the way home and I had to have a bottle of wine. It's the first one this month so could be worse and I felt the need.

Oh yes, I forgot - I was thinking of making a quiche at the weekend and was wondering, if I portioned it up, could I successfully freeze the individual portions once cooked and cooled and then just take them out one at a time as needed? I have no idea if you can freeze quiche!

Yes, you can freeze quiche - I often do. Just make sure that it is cooled completely first. I cut into portions and then wrap in foil. It's easy to take out what you need then, and either defrost to eat cold or reheat in the oven. You can do this from frozen if you like - I usually cover in foil so it doesn't burn. 20 mins at 180/gas mark 4 usually does the trick.

another quickie, as I forgot to get the oats for the hobnobs, do you reckon I could use chocolate porridge (another thing I got that no one likes)?
Are you thinking of chocolate ready brek type stuff? Personall I wouldnt as the texture is completely different-its mushy stuff up by real oats. If your choc flavour oats are real oats though(not the readybrek stuff)it should be fine.

Well have come home from work with a bad back today (I've got a wonky shoulder blade so it means that all the muscles in my back are wonky too!) Sitting in an office all day just makes me seize up so here I am at home. Slowly pottering in the kitchen trying to keep active to get things working again :) I'm meant to be doing the moonwalk in London on 17th May to raise money for breast cancer so fingers crossed I can walk properly by then!!!

We're having Quorn fajitas tonight so I'll be making Mrs M's tortillas to go with them. Am tempted to make up two batches and then have some for lunches for the next couple of days. I can't remember if I asked before, but can you freeze them? (either uncooked or cooked?)

Lots of people talking about IPTW at work today. Some of them could quite understand how she spent £260 a week. I personally thought it was just a bit careless!! especially as she seemed to be throwing stuff away a lot of the time. I was listening to the news on the radio at lunchtime and there was a segment about it on there as well. One woman was saying how she would throw away a sandwich that her child didn't eat or a yoghurt that was opened but untouched. Is it just me that would probably cover it in cling film and put it back in the fridge for when they wanted it later? (within reason of course - if it had been sat out in the warmth for a while then I might not!)

Someone asked about how to save money if you're already on the cheapest versions of products - I think it's just about making things go further really. Bulking things out with oats/lentils or getting BOGOFs or whoopsies for things. I know that there are some people who water down their washing up liquid and shampoo. (I have no idea how that works cos I wouldn't have thought it would mix properly with water but if anyone does, please let me know!!)

    Bye for now!
Well it waters down ok but you still need a certain amount to wash with. Unless of course you have been using too much of it just because its thick? For this reason I use value washing up liquid-especially when the kids wash up as they squirt too much out.
Re shapmoo, the best one we found for the whole family(after trying all of the heavily promoted fancy rubbish)is the asda smartprice one-or the tesco one at 29p for a litre! No need to water it down as its just right.
All bottles get stood upside down to get the last dregs out and tubes get cut in half(especially hair gel) to get the last out-it generally keeps you going another week.

    good afternoon all,

Quick word to claire2305-I do mean tablespoons.i know it sounds like alot but since the mixture rises it spreads out well. But if your not as sure just dont put as much in. It really depends what mood i'm is as to how many herbs i use. Hope you enjoy it. It's really quick and easy so kids love helping with it too.

Thoughts to your sister and family MRS M i hope it all turns out well.

I'm having a bit of a rubbish day today. It was my turn to pay for the pub lunch. Which never puts me in the best mood. But it was my little boys 1st bday last sunday. Which signals the end of breast feeding for him. He's dealing with it really well. I ,on the other hand, am just feeling really dejected. I love breastfeeding and he's my last baby. Hi there pennypinchingmum!
I haven't breastfed yet, but that's because my baby is 8 days overdue!
However I've been doing a lot of reading about it, and I understand that 1 year is the recommended minimum for breastfeeding, but the World Health Organisation advises that feeding til two is actually recommended, although of course that's not very common in this country. There's no reason you have to stop if you don't want to, unless you have specific reasons, of course.
And of course, it'll continue to save you money! ;)

Well today would have been a NSD for me, but we ran out of bananas and I bought two in Waitrose this morning which cost me- 23p! (will update sig in a mo). I felt very virtuous though as I wasn't tempted to even look at anything else!

I wasn't feeling well yesteday when I got home from work - I think it was the heat, so we didn't eat the shepherd's pie I made. I did a quick mushroom omlette and salad for my DH and I had two glasses of water! We had the shepherd's pie for lunch today so saved cooking something else!

Will do a Sainsbury shop after work tomorrow. Am thinking of attempting a cut down version of the Low GI/Low carb diet - but can't give up everything at once. We are visiting friends at the weekend and celebrating the fact that DD1 has got a place on the uni course she applied for - so I think some alcohol will be involved!

Mrs M - hope your sister is ok - my younger sister survived ovarian cancer so I know how you feel.

Have you tried castor oil? I tried it when my second one was late - mix it half and half with orange juice and it will taste less horrid. But don't use as much as I did - about 50ml of each - was way too much! (I won't elaborate but you know what castor oil is usually used for!!!)
