  • Hi, DD has just come in and said "why haven't we got any food?" erm?? I haven't been shopping? Can't fill them at the mo and cupboards are bare. Will make some hob nobs and choccy cake for half-term next week and suppose I'd better go shopping!! Hope to still be on target, so will update, Hope I succeed this month hardly dare go shopping in case I loose control. I have been inspired by you all to buy a little greenhouse thing (plastic £9.99 from instore) and OH has planted coriander, chives, salad leaves, runner beans and planning to do more in our tiny garden, We have grown the odd thing before but not as much so quite excited (See Feline Fantastic I'm the same!!). Thanks to all for recipes and inspiration.

Have totally blown this months target and worse than that have not kept total since went over!-too depressing.
Been a pretty stressful month, hoping June will be more positive but as most stress due to insurance company and still not being able to move home....that may be wishful thinking :-) Just can't seem to get myself motivated to cook...or plan... agh hoping run and pilates this eve will help clear head and then can start planning for positive June :-) well done to everyone this month-your tips are great, I really must start using them!

"4th NSD for me and I think I can survive till Friday without spending any more."

I must be going mad - when I wrote this last night I forgot that I went to the shops on Monday, so although yesterday was a NSD it wasn't the 4th in a row,so not sure if it counts?

I think I am really cracking up as I spent time before leaving for work making egg salad for my pack up and OH's lunch before I remembered that he was out today and wouldn't need a lunch. I covered it in cling film and hope it will still be ok for tomorrow. What do you think - I put it in the fridge - but the eggs were already de-shelled and quartered. Will it keep ok,or will I give him food poisoning?

I may have to buy some more salad and fruit before Friday but I am going to try and wait till then.

    must dash

The egg will keep a couple of days cooked in the fridge like that no problem and as long as the salad was in good condition he shouldnt know the difference.

Velvet is a pack of 6 for £2 in Iceland nearly all the time. I always buy T Rolls when they are on offer and stash them in the loft. You can never have too many! T Rolls often on offer in Somerfield and Waitrose I find. Got most of mine in Waitrose-which is surprising!

Hi guys, just been to mr A's and bought some stuff food wise and also some stuff for the garden (inspired by you lot and trying to grow some veggies) wasnt going to add it to my total GC but thinking about it I ought to as it kinda is food shopping and will benefit the food shop. It will certainly be more acurate that way. BUT THE BAD NEWS IS.... that now takes me to £270!!!!! Thats £20 over budget    .
I know what you mean but you can set your goals too low! Why not allow yourself a gardening budget of say £20 per month-certainly for the summer anyhow. If you set your budget too low and keep going over you wont feel good. Allow yourself a bit of leeway. Mine is for food and only food-I will work on the other areas separately.

    Hi,
I cannot remember the exact specifics of the LIDL ones, and have just had a receipt clean out- sorry. All I can say is I remember them being better quality in terms of softness and strength and also cheaper than other supermarkets in our area. Other stuff is a lot cheaper but good quality too, eg yoghurts. Maybe a trip to your local LIDL would be a good idea just to see what there is ?
Next time I am in I will check the loo roll section and post the info.

All cleared up after 10 kids here for DS 8th birthday party, loads of cakes left can you freeze fairy cakes? All the sweets, biscuits, crisps all gone, out of all of it I only had....one toffee:D that will keep the weight off:D

My OH says I am taking the re using thinking of how what why now on everything a step too far because when the kids did the pinata and the head fell off I rushed over got the sweets out for them, went into the kitchen and got the superglue out to glue the head back on for next year:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: OH is mumbling after me 'throw it out it is not strong now and next year it will just burst the first time a kid whacks it, put it in the bin' oh no I say the head is now secure and I am recycling it:rotfl: :rotfl: the birthday basic MR S stuff had no complaints from the kids, proves that you don't have to spend masses on a kids party, once the wrappers come off they are none the wiser as to which company it comes from:rolleyes:

Re toilet rolls I used to have charmin' all of the top makes but now it is MR T which is 9 rolls for I think less than £1, it is MR T value and no complaints, this thread has really opened my eyes to the money wastage, considering what I used to pay for toilet rolls to going down to the basics and saving money, it is truly surprising, they all do the same, just now I have a lot more pennies to spend elsewhere.

I also bought MR T alpine toilet cleaner 29p and it does the same job as the big ones like domestos etc it also smells lovely filling the house with its clean smell, before I would have paid £1.50/£2 for a bottle and poured my money down the loo:rotfl:

Hi, I am doing ok with my grocery budget, three weeks into the month and only spent 50 quid so far. My big Asda order will be delivered tomorrow though so that will bump it up. Shouldn't need much more though this month other than bread, milk and fruit. My petrol budget is blown though. A full tank seems to cost more and more each time I fill up. I have also had two long trips to factor in, still what can I do, I either stop at home or pay for the petrol
