I know you were that's why I had to disagree. Not all the ingredients are in cups in that recipe. A mug would work differently to a small coffeecup in relation with the 1tsp bicarb and the other ingredients IYSWIM

Ah I see-I wasn't considering mugs but on reflection, I guess a lot of people would do! Cos I was just thinking of variations of ordinary teacups-well theres not a lot of difference but when you mention mugs then I agree as it would indeed make a difference.

I still dont think you get me. My cups at home are probably twice the size of cups that you get tea in in cafes, but other people's cups might be the same size as these or smaller. There can be a big variation in the size of people's cups (Ooh er!;) ). I was trying to say in my previous post, a big cup and a little cup would work differently. Not necesarily people using mugs instead of cups, just some cups are as big as mugs and some the size of expresso cups.

thanks dink1 :DI feel better now so long as it is not just me;)

Having a nsd today, will be at work, take my own lunch, fairy cakes are now in the freezer, the left over biscuits are bieng taken to school so no waste there, DS is happily playing with his new remote control car, the sun is shining what more could you ask for?:D

I have in the freezer marinated BBQ pork chinese ribs shop bought anyone got any ideas what to put with them? I guess jacket potato or salad but anyone got a lovely rice recipe (a little bit spicy as the ribs have got garlic and chilli in them and I need something to complement them)

Whenever I make a rice dish it tastes of.....rice:rolleyes: my MIL makes lovely rice dishes but she is abroad at the mo, what about a pasta side dish?

Thanks for all the posts about cups. This is precisely the reason that as soon as I see a recipe marked in cups (as many I find on t'internet) I switch off unless the equivalent weight has been given.

I can manage imperial and metric but cups defeat me. A cup is a unit of volume and isn't immediately convertible to weight, for example a cup (even if I knew what size the cup should be) of uncooked rice doesn't weigh the same as a cup of rice crispies.

I agree if it is all measured in cups it wouldn't matter as the proportions are right, but if a cake mixture ended up as half the intended volume and put in the tin size suggested, baking times would need to be adjusted. Not that it is a problem if you know about it (I never seem to cook for the exact stated time) but if unsuspecting might result in a culinary disaster.

Last night had to go to Asda pharmacy for my mother, but was determined not to go in the store. Couln't resist the whoopsies at the door though. 3 containers of prepared fresh fruit normally a pound each, mango 20p, pineapple 18p and watermelon 24p, a piece of cucumber 10p, watercress and rocket 20p, and organic bananas 10p.

I wouldn't normally buy the prepared fruit as not good value, would buy the whole fruit and before I found this site would have ended up throwing at least half of it away. DD loves watermelon, but the last whole one I bought was 2.98, and at least three quaters went in the bin.

Will have to shop tonight though, food to take with us tomorrow and things for DH to have while he stays at home. He will be too lazy to cook, have got a ready prepared chilli and rice in the freezeer, need to find or make some other dinners. He won't eat pasta so the other easy options are out.

Good luck to those nearing the end of their challenge, I still have a week to go:eek: but still much better than I was spending. At least I now know where the money has gone. Even if I couldn't stop it leaving I am happy that I didn't help it to pack its bags and let it take all its friends with it.

PS must change my sig to 'Sorry, don't do brief'
