One question please, I've mentioned about my financial situation, yet I've heard many times that it's cheaper to home cook than purchase ready meals, I've always been confused by this, how can it be?
For example, I purchase chicken pizzas from Iceland for £1.50 each; to cook my own would surely be more expensive?
Sorry if this sounds a stupid question.
Hi 10past6
Not a silly question at all.
I don't know how large the pizza is that you can get from Iceland for £1.50, but I sometimes make a tuna pizza for lunch at weekends for the 4 of us. We do vary the recipe according to what we have in the fridge, so we may use ham and pineapple, salami, pepperoni, mushrooms etc
The tuna pizza costs about £1.65 in ingredients, but there is also cooking costs to take into consideration. I think the biggest benefit is knowing what is in your food, plus a certain satisfaction when the family sits down to eat and enjoys it.
Tuna Pizza
½ tsp yeast
300g (11oz) strong white flour (10p)
½ tbsp sugar (1p)
15g (1/2 oz) butter (5p)
1 tbsp salt
210 ml water
1 tin drained chopped tomatoes (21p)
1 tin tuna (37p)
100g (4oz) black stoned olives (25p)
150g (5oz) grated cheese (66p)
Total £1.65
I make the dough in a breadmaker, roll out to 25cm (10”) circle. Place on a greased baking sheet and leave to rise. Spread over tomato, tuna and cheese, sprinkle with olives.
Bake at 220 deg C/425 deg F/ Gas Mark 7 for 15-20 minutes or until brown

KPC - hope it all works out how you want it.
Vix - congrats - let your hair down and enjoy your Brighton weekend. Ajax have a great time in brean. Wish I was going somewhere - stuck in with the kids while hubbys on a stag weekend!
I have tried almost every diet I think. I found Atkins really, really hard, I have never craved fruit so much in my life, I really think that it cannot be that good for you if you feel you need healthy stuff, but each to their own and as you say, whatever works for each and every one of us is good. - just wish I could focus and have a regime I can stick to.
Well done on the loss Suggs.
Welome to the newbies and good luck with your weight loss journey.
Take care all and have a fab weekend. If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0 -
bails~The comment about peeps wth CP using far more energy to move is certainly spot on.Thanks for that.Oh maybe not.I HATE seeing people who walk like me~~FOr some reason is really really upsets me.Oh you know what I mean.Dont mean it the way it types. That girl moves so like me.Scary.
Hey peeps - a new experience for me next week. I was asked by my consultant today to be a living 'exam practical' for the local medical school next week. Not allowed to tell the students what is wrong with me but can answer questions. I get picked up and returned by taxi. I'll pretend it's a limo. Should be fun:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
10past6, honestly it's cheaper! Tell us what kind of things you like eating and we'll help you with some basic recipes to try.
This is very kind of you to offer, in all honesty, I’ve never done any home cooking ever, but I really would like to try.
OK, this is just a basic idea of my shopping trolley, pre packed fish in breadcrumbs, fresh salmon fillets, pizzas, ready made curries, uncle bens microwave rice, processed tinned peas, frozen mashed potatoes tbh, I’m extremely embarrassed by this list, which is another reason I’d like to try home cooking, not a very appetising list is it?Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

I can completely relate to this, very much so in fact. Beanie, I am sorry the programme was upsetting for you, I hope you were able to take some heart from it too. If it helps, it moves me to tears, and then sheer bloody-minded pig-headed determinationI applaud the fact that this series highlights the very real issues so many people have to deal with every day (the travelling aspect is just a big bonus
). I would love to do something like this when I'm well, wonder if I could get Ken to give me a job? :rotfl:
10past6, don't be embarrassed at all. Listen, I'll get back to you over the weekend with some ideas and I'm sure others will chip in too; you'll be Gordon Ramsay in no time (hmm, is that a good thing? you know what I mean)
BB, I reckon they'll diagnose you with a purple fetish

BB~Yes, that is the main reason I get so tiired.
It was explained to me that Peeps with CP use at least 4-5 energy of other peeps to do the same thing. As Ive got older this has become more apparent.Sigh.
OOh Ive never been a living exam practical peep but used to see lots of med students & someimes at changeover time (Feb & August) used to be able to help them out as knew hosp & its in & outs so well:rotfl: :rotfl: Sure you will find it an interesting experience.Oh you know what I mean & you will be in the consultants good books~Never a bad thing IYSWIM lol
