ampersand never been to a WW meeting in my life but still managed quite happily on my own to loose 6 stone, there are lots of sites on the internet apart from the official one of WW THAT gives you help and tips, blogs, go to the library and borrow al lthe recipe books, ask friends for them, no need to go to a meeting:D0 -

I count my calories by keeping a daily diary and writing in everything that I eat. There are numerous websites that will tell you the calorific content of all food stuffs
. If you can try and start cooking some meals from scratch you'll find you can make them quite low calorie compared to shop bought ready meals and a lot cheaper too :j , start slowly and you'll soon become proficient, basic cooking is quite simple and you'll soon get used to it. Stay with us here as there are quite a few money/diet savvy people :j ...
...I must admit that my eating is well under control this week :j I think that it's due the warmer weather, either that or I've finally got it all sussed  naaah!:rotfl: ...
xxxxI wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latterbut my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

Off to the beach for a week tomorrow. May pop on here later today but if I dont get chance, you all have a good week. I'll be needing every bit of support I can get to claw back next week's gains - holidays and LW are a 'never the twain' pairing for me0 -

UC Berkeley Webcasts | Video and Podcasts: The Quality of Calories ...
and you may come to understand that it is not the number of calories you consume that is important or the number of calories you expend on exercise but the nature of the calories you consume that matters.
I've averaged a 2.5lb week weight loss since 23rd Jan simply by not eating those foods that raise insulin levels.
I've not counted any calories but I know I eat more each day than I need for daily maintenance because I eat a cooked breakfast (eggs/bacon/mushrooms/tomatoes) have home made soup or a low carb meal for lunch and a full evening meal (substituting celeriac - cauliflower or other veggies for the missing rice/potatoes/bread/pasta element)
Because I don't eat those foods that stimulate appetite I'm not hungry. I no longer have the cravings for food or booze that make me think snacking was necessary.
Because I'm eating those foods the human body became fine tuned over 2 million years to exploit I'm feeling better both physically and mentally.
Those who enjoy reading medical science papers will find this explanation of how/why not all calories are equal interesting.
for those who find that last link too complex this post explains the ideas underlying it simply. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hello all, how are we doing today?
This last 1.5lb of my mini challenge is being a right b***** to shiftNormally I would have seen some progress during the week by now, but an extra 1.5lb went mysteriously on overnight the other night - that's gone now - but still at square one for the week  Oh well, cals are already at minimum and I'm exercising every day so I don't see what more I can do?
Ajax enjoy your holiday, I think holiday gains should be made compulsory anywayWhere are you off to?
Hey Pet glad to see you're having a good week there! Surely you had it sussed ages ago though considering how long you've maintained!
Hello 10past6, welcome to the thread. Ready meals and their like will all have the calories printed on the pack so you could easily jot them down and add up your intake for the dayThere is a publication "A-Z of Calories" which you can get in Smiths for about £2.50. It lists calories for basic foods, and then has sections for just about everything you can buy sorted by food type/brand/supermarket. I know money is really tight for you, but if there's any way you can get hold of this it will last you for ages. If not, you could always post up a list of anything where you're not sure of the calorie count and I'll be happy to look them up for you. Have you worked out what calorie intake you should be aiming for?
Ampersand, lots of us don't attend classes and just post weigh ins from our home scalesI think the main thing about weighing is using the same scales and getting consistancy from week to week.
Congratulations Sue-UU and Julesgr on your fabulous 1lb losses!
Victory - that's something that makes me laugh as well, when the labels post the nutritional information for "half a portion" etc :rotfl: What's the point of that? Mind you once I'd doubled the numbers it soon stopped me buying Sainsburys ready made Cottage Pie (which I used to love)... make my own now.
Right I'm off out on my bike! Have a good day all!0 -

........missy, I always applaud the appliance of science and love your approach. It's important to remember though that with every analysis comes a degree of experimental error. Don't give it another thought, it will work itself out over time.
We're taking the dog to Brean for the week. He came from Devon Springer Rescue and the co-ordinator there is going to bring one or two of his old friends down on Sunday to run along the beach with him. We got the old boy just over a year ago so it will be interesting to see if he remembers the other dogs.0 -

"I shall await your message ajax, perhaps i was a bit too quick. What games can we play?" --- you're just feeding him his lines on a plate! Although I see he didn't really respond. Still stressing about his stripes maybe.
.........not stripes, stripe! It's sacred.... or at least it was.
Had the first barbecue of the year last night. Quorn barbecues are very healthy and low-fat but don't half empty the pocket!0
