Not sure I have ever lost 5lbs in one month- ever!

......that's why it's called the 5lb challenge and not the 5lb giveaway ;)

    OK KPC, will do x

EDIT: Having just read all of your post KPC, I think I'd be storing some peoples' patisserie under my armpit for 5 minutes, or down my shorts on a warm day!

OK I'm back, 15 mins on the cross trainer and been for a quick walk to get milk... will do more later, as I'm feeling very energetic today but I'm trying to time my exercise a bit better before meals to get more calorie-burning benefit!

Procrastinator - never ever worry or apologise about 'going on' - it's what we're here for and it's good to get things in writing! That must be frustrating for you, I can't understand why they won't do as you suggest and have their cakes etc outside of your part time hours?

Sue-UU & Annie it's a pity about the shortage on wii fits when you could make good use of one right now, but you're right there's no point paying over the odds. July isn't that far off :)

Hi Bright-Idea! Welcome and thanks for introducing yourself with your story. I am also single and I have a 9 year old boy :) I'd suggest trying to make a habit where you have a cut off time for eating in the evening so that you are not snacking ALL evening (if this is what you are doing in the first place). I know that might be easier said than done. I'd also suggest a food diary, write down every single thing that you eat, and this might help you identify areas where you can make changes. You are already getting to the gym when you can, so that's a big positive :) And you have given up smoking which is even better!

Victory, I know what you're saying but a 4lb gain over a week isn't gaining at a rate of 2lb per day, that would be 14lb :) Is this your first 'significant' gain since Christmas? I can totally understand the need to vent, I come on here and wail when I don't get the results I think I deserve, but then it's back to business and I never once consider myself doomed.

It's only twice in my entire 'journey' that I've had desperate trouble shifting a few particularly stubborn pounds. The majority of the time I am totally comfortable with my pattern, including the deserved and enjoyed gains. I've had 9 gains, 12 losses and 0 sts since the New Year, inc 3 gains over 3lb and I am currently 4lb lighter than I was on New Year's Eve - which I consider a rip roaring success! Because I allow myself gains some weeks, I do not feel deprived - and the other weeks when I need to knuckle down hard in order to keep my figure, that's my choice and I'm happy with it. You don't sound happy Victory :(

I will shut up now in case I'm not helping at all, but I hope it doesn't take too long for you to get your head around this and come back to us :)

Dragon - bloomin' clothes sizes  Don't get me started! :rotfl:

Hiya Feline! :D Welcome! Just want to say it can be done without losing 5lb per month. I lost more than that in my very first month, but after that the only time I did it again was the month I started to maintain :rotfl:

In all today's excitement I've forgotten to plan lunch! Hmm, think I have some Swedish meatballs though... :p

[p.s. didn't realise post was that long... sorry folks...]

    Thanks everybody for the welcome.

So first step, I just joined Weightwatchers on-line (thru' Quidco of course)
Never joined any sort of slimming club before because never been able to go to meetings (no babysitter). I'm starting on the points plan and will see how things go, I'm going to stick to the plan of going to bed early initially, afterall if I'm asleep I can't eat, thought I could use the time for a bit of a pamper if I'm not really tired.

Okay the trousers I have been wearing recently (size 28 M&S) I needed to dart and put a belt on and they were still falling down - so I swapped over to the same style, just a size 26 and they are just too snug!!! !!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Its so annoying isn't it:mad: . I bought 2 dresses from Littlewoods to try on for my brothers wedding in July. One was an 18 and the other a 16. The 18 was way too big - I don't think a dressmaker would even have been able to make it fit! But the 16 was too tight and made wouldn't even zip up. I really liked it as well:mad:   . They should start making inbetween sizes!

KPC - ugh. Poor you. Are you hoping to be able to leave the day job at some point and work for yourself? I reckon you'd be really successful :)

Grrr!! Just had my P60. Why oh why have the Inland Revenue left pension contributions off it this year? There's normally a Total Gross box and a Taxable Gross box, this year only a Taxable Gross.

Of course, when it comes to filling in the self assessment they'll want both totals

OMG.... just spent 10 mins cleaning the kitchen.... there I was with my smoothie maker and thought I would try it for the first time..... so I am chopping bananas and putting the milk and ice in and whizz it up. Well it has a spout on the end and it was taking forever to come through so I thought 'I know why not just poor it out of the jug'? I take the jug off and have forgotten that it has a hole where the spout fits into and I have my newly made banana smoothie all over the floor/the work top and pooring into the drawer and I am standing there with an empty smoothie jug in my hand!! What a dimwit!!
Oh well will have to get some more bananas later to give it a go.... smelt nice though!:o

I am not sure I understand - could this be why my calculations suggest that I owe the tax man £400???I just input the Total Gross figure - was that the wrong thing to do (haven't submitted it yet!)

Bear with me efrieze cos I'm working from memory - I don't have my logon code here at work.

There's either a box for total gross and a box for taxable gross or a box for pension contributions and a box for taxable gross. If you are getting a tax deficit of £400 then my guess is that you're right; putting the total gross where the taxable gross should be, presumably about £2k difference between the two
