Bails - brilliant post and so apt. Today I had over 400 photos (from over 4 years!) developed and i was only on 5 and just my head sticking out from behind my family on those 5. I felt awful, my hubby has always said I don't like having my photos taken and he's right but its all because of how I feel about myself. Granted on 2 of the pics I looked awful but even I thought I looked alright on the other 3. So guys, I have decided to forget how big I am and step out in the world and stop hiding.

I am also one of those people who hardly ever buy clothes because I think everything looks awful on me but I went to Sainsburys tonight and bought 4 tops and 3 pairs of trousers, all size 18, and not one in black, I've tried them on - I didn't try and kid myself and buy a size smaller - everything fits and I look okay actually!! I am going away soon and I am going to be on the pictures, I want my kids to remember their mum as being someone who is happy with themselves despite my size.

Sorry for going on but if we can all feel good about ourselves - then its a real big start to the rest of our lives despite whatever journey we have ahead.

    Take care all

Bargain babe - this is fantastic. I feeled thrilled to read this. Today you have taken a massive step in turning your self esteem around and what a wonderful gift to your children (and your husband). I bet you look great in your new clothes and self esteem and confidence is the best of new outfits too and very attractive.

I'm fine today thanks, the disgruntlement has passed! :D

Yes, and it used to work but it doesn't anymore! I always click on the name of the thread, which opens the first page, and just to the top left of your opening post, above your user name it says 'view first unread'. It's a link and clicking on it used to take me to the last page I'd been on.

Thanks so much BB, you've actually made me cry! (in a nice way of course) but i am so ashamed that I have been like that for so long and it was only seeing these photos that made me realise if I was no longer here there would not even be any pics for the kids to remember me. Well you're right it is a step forward, I've never been that keen on myself but I am important to the main people in my life and they love me regardless of how I look.
Thanks again for your very kind words xx

KPC hope you have a good evening, sorry your plans got changed, hope you can make up for that soon! Glad you're feeling better.

BB, I've never heard of quark :o Don't see any reason why I can't treat myself to a slice of 'real' cheesecake at some point though :D Perhaps with my delayed birthday meal out when it happens :D

Fab post Bargain Babe! Great about the clothes shopping and the new attitude about being in the pictures, I bet now that you're feeling more relaxed within yourself, that will come across beautifully in the photos :D With holiday pics it's smiles that are the first thing people notice anyway.

Vix you have a great weekend too (well after you've finished work!)

I am hoping to have a very relaxing and quiet weekend, but then next week the fun starts with this list of things for me and my son to do, which I am really excited about :D

Im kinda holding out for the time when im 50 and i can think oh sod it, i dont have to tick any boxes or forfill a certain sterotype. (No doubt that will still be the case though!)

Hi Vix - take it from me, if you care about your weight now, you'll still care about it when you're 50! I've gone through phases in my life when I've decided I'm not meant to be slim, that I should accept the way I am because that's how I'm meant to be. It works for a while, but then something will trigger a decision to lose weight again, which might be looking for an outfit and not being able to find something I like that fits, or seeing an unflattering photograph of myself.

You aren't particularly big, and I feel you could be in danger of having a distorted body image. We're all influenced by the perfect body images that we're bombarded with by the media, and if we don't fit that image, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we have to change ourselves so that we do.

If you decide to lose weight make sure you're doing it for yourself, not to meet anyone else's expectations, real or unreal.

Thanks Beanie - I'm watching it myself and I was in tears a few minutes ago, when one of the girls was talking about how she was bullied at school because of her disability. I'm laughing now though, as one of the lads was wearing his entire wardrobe and people thought he was fat!
