I was told by Scottish Power that the extra £1.50 per month for each fuel is the charge for fixing the tariff.Seeems a small price to pay to cover nearly 3 years of steep fuel price rises.
Depending on where you live and who you are with now, then the actual unit rates may be a bit dearer or a lot dearer. But at least they will now stay the same when others go up.My gas is a little more but my electric, second rate,is actually a little cheaper than i pay now and i am a heavy user of electric so i'm happy.

This £1.50 has been raised in a couple of threads and I have no idea what it means either!!!

If kWh prices are higher on the capped tariff, then clearly the increase be variable.

Could that mean that if you pay a fixed daily charge, that charge will increase by £1.50 a month?(5p a day)

or simply a £1.50 a month charge on all tariffs?

It is simply a blanket £1.50 charge for each fuel because you are on a fixed rate,no matter what the actual tariff, whether a standing charge or not,and however much per unit.

I don't know if all areas are the same, but on my Economy 7 Fixed Rate SP tariff the £1.50 extra per month is caused by the increased cost of the standing charge (or 225 per quarter more expensive units if no standing charge). The other electricity rates ie day and night are exactly the same as SP standard rates.

I signed up to the fixed price SP offer over the weekend. You may have seen my previous posts on a different thread as I was getting really confused by it!

I am an existing SP customer on their standard package. To change to the fixed price offer my rate per kw/h stays the same as it is at the moment, but the daily service charge increases by 5p per day for both gas and elec which equals £3 per month in total. I had to download the different packages off their website and trawl through them to find my current rate (checked this against latest bill to be sure) and then compared this with the rates of the fixed price plan. It wasn't easy to locate the information as there are so many figures to look at but I double checked everything to be sure. On the basis of this I signed up and I hope I am right as I don't want to be in for a nasty shock.

On top of this we will be installing cavity wall and loft insulation to bring our consumption down.

Just spoke to C @ scottish Power, the £1.50 per fuel is roughly the differrence between the standard online tariff and the fixed rate untill feb 2011.

Im a sp customer online, C from SP could not offer me the fixed rate on the phone, " I told him it was still on line" he told me to take it if it worked, "that was all he was allowed to say, he told me" ;)

From the posts below that £1.50 appears to if you are on the standard tariff.
