    BUMP - any advice welcome on what to do

    Basing decisions on DD is not the way forward... do you know your annual consumption? :confused:

    Are you putting in actual consumption or just their monthly direct debit? If it is the latter... you will definitely end up with more spurious results...

    All I've got is their DD amount per fuel. I don't have access to their bills. I'm doing all this over the phone with them so very unlikely I'll get the actual energy units used.

    right updated my yearly figures in terms of kwh for full year:

    current contract supplier: scottish power
    Tariff - dual fuel Premier Plus
    Gas usage : 20823 kwh
    electricity : 6429 kwh

    any suggestions if its best to change as EON and Atlantic quote savings of £280+ via uswitch. Or is better to change to the SP capped tarrif until 2011??
    thanks

    You won't get a valid comparison otherwise .. I'm afraid. I also found the comparison sites wholly unreliable when it came to capped tariffs. And eventually had to work out my annual Kwh consumption on both fuels and do the arithmetic. One of the problems being that EON has so many tariffs and Energyhelpline, in particular, doesn't accept some of the valid combinations. Had exactly the same problem with it when I was with EDF for several years.

    From the Yorkshire area (on EON Online V5) moving to NPower 2011 was giving me a 40.7% increase! Whereas the move to Scottish Power 2011 was the one I chose at 27% increase. Virtually identical to switching within EON to their (V14) 2009 fix .... also 27% but 18 months shorter fix.

    Worth doing the arithmetic and getting them to total the Kwh for the past 4 quarters?
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • atpug... Have you re-done the uswitch comparison with the consumption figures as opposed to using DD figures? Try energyhelpline aswell just for another view... ;)
    :D

    cheers mikeyorks, was just going to post a very similar reply...

    done that interesting results now

    Uswitch says:
    Save £190+ with Southern electric
    Save £166+ with Atlantic
    Save from £5+! with EON

    Energy helpline says:
    Save £130+ with BG!
    Save £77 with EON
    Save £11 with Atlantic

    no mention of the capped SP offer.
    still confused any help welcome
  • atpug... some maths next i'm afraid atpug...:eek:

    find out what you are paying at the moment for you gas and electric with SP... (are you paying a standing charge? or two tierd rate?) :confused:

    next find out what the SP fixed (it is this one I assume you are talking about when you say the capped rate?) 2011 price is in your area... :confused: by searching through this link: make sure you use inc. VAT prices...

    http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pricing_pdfs/Fixed_Price_Booklet.pdf nb. there are options for standing charge and no standing charge... work out both if you can be bothered...

    Now work out your annual expenditure for both these tariffs... see cardew's earlier post in this thread for how to do that if unsure...

    You will not find the SP 2011 fix on the comparison sites as it is only available to existing customers online... ;)

    Let us know how you get on... :beer:

    Okay here are my results
    current spend with SP over last year
    Gas £675-50 incl standing charge
    Elec £380-60 incl standing charge
    total = £1056.

    Looking at SP Fixed price offer - estimates
    With standing charge
    Gas =£670
    elec =£637
    total - £1307

    No standing charge - estimate
    Gas =£670.5
    elec =£637
    total
    total - £1307.5

    i.e. little difference between standing and no standing charge. Now is it worth paying extra for the fixed price rise over next few years, as bills will be higher by approx £200 pa plus need to factor in the £1.50 per month extra charge for gas and elec - unless that is factored in the prices.
    now really confused!lol

    is it best to stick with current tariff, change to fixed prices of move to another provider???
