I have recently moved, and there is a BT socket already here. I phoned up and asked about getting it connected, initially told it'd be £124.99, but when I started wondering what to do, I was suddenly told I could have it done for £29.99 if I was on an 18 month contract.

No mention was made of the need to make a certain number of calls, and after having the line sorted on 22/08 I have still not received any sort of paperwork at all. It was the guy from Openreach who told me my number.

What gets me in this situation is that whilst I verbally agreed on the phone to the 18 month contract and paying £29.99 to get the line connected, I have not verbally agreed to, or signed, anything pinning me down on the restrictions.

Surely to enforce this legally I should have something in writing?

Edited to add: At the bottom of notice 25/08 it states 'this note has no contractual force'....so if I receive nothing in writing from BT would I be within my rights to challenge them?

All that wa smentioned to me was the 18 month contract and the fact that you must be on either the Evening & Weekend plan or the Anytime one (not sure if they are the correct titles) No mention of a minimum number of calls.

Its very clear in the T&C.

""Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or chargeable inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly.""

All you need to do is make 3 inclusive calls a week to be on safe side.
  • I managed to pursuade BT to do this installation at this price on the 4th attempt after getting put through to the options team. I was told that I could get broadband at the address where I was having the line as the engineer would need to install brand new lines from the exchange to my property hance the original £125 cost and it was not as simple as flicking a switch at the exchange.

Had the line reconnected - no new line from the exchange. Called BT to arrange for broadband but they told me they could not provide a service on the line as the speed would have been to low and un-reliable. I asked to cancel and they informed me that I would need to pay for the installation and the remaining 18mnths line rental - although I was only connected for 2 days. In the end (after 5 more phone calls) I managed to get them to cancel for free as I believed I had been miss-sold the product and it was not fit for the purpose I required - which had been explained to the call centre bloke when I arranged the installation.

If you have the option, use Virgin Media.

So is it chargeable calls or inclusive calls, to me there is a difference. Got the link to work from a previous page, it says "Customers must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls every three month period or 10 chargeable calls or chargeable inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly." which is clear as mud to me lol. A chargeable call to me is one which is outwith your inclusive minutes?

Sorry, am I being thick and missing something here? The 10 inclusive calls required to comply with BT's terms is baffling me. I would choose the Anytime option where ALL calls are inclusive. Are they saying I have to call 10 mobiles or premium rates over this period?

I must be thick too then :rotfl:

    Hi Lally.

Heres the correct link. : http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Notice08_boo/2-FrameworkImpl268785.htm

You have a choice you either have to make 10 chargeable or inclusive calls every month, or 30 a quarter.

All BT customers have at least Inclusive Weekend Geographical Calls so it makes money saving sense to make some inclusive rather then chargeable ones if you are just trying to meet this condition. EG:You rarely make outgoing calls.

    Hi,
Thanks for yet another great thread on MSE; this should hopefully save me some much needed cash with moving house at the end of the week (and already skint)!

Just a query if someone would be so kind – I’m wanting to take out SKY TV, Broadband & Phone once I get my line up and running but not sure if having Phone with Sky will impact on me being able to make the required calls so I’m not charged the extra money from BT?...........ie just wondered if with Sky including calls in their package it meant I couldn’t fulfil the BT requirements; if so not a big issue as guess I could go with Sky for TV and Broadband and not phone.

    Cheers:beer:
    stay lucky!
    Steve.
  • I have just paid £125 to have a BT line connected and am in the process of joining SKY. SKY are offering new customers a full refund on the £125 . I have yet to receive this as you have to wait 3 months after being a sky memebr then sky will credit the £125 ( on supply of a receipt) to your sky account .
