just to get my dumb head around this...

if i get this deal and want to switch to talk talk etc, can i not switch? as it states 18months contract?

i wanted my broadband etc from talk talk as they have better package.

    anyone?
  • Correct, if you take the £29.99 deal you agree to pay BT line rental for 18 months or pay to get out of it.
Talktalk only accept customers with an active BT line and although they can arrange installation of business lines and for home movers they won't do it for new customers.
Many decent telecos will provide this service as well as BT retail.

  • I have just moved into a new build flat and have taken out this offer with the options team. £29.99 install which is added to your first bill and then 10.50per month. I am going to get Sky Broadband and TV but leave phone with BT. It clearly states at the bottom of notice 25/08 (http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/public/current/Notice08_boo/2-FrameworkImpl268785.htm) that "this notice has no contractual force", so I am not bothered about making a required amount of calls per month. Great post, thanks. I did however spend over an hour on the phone to them, got cut off twice and apparently "failed a credit check" with a member of the sales team. He also asked me for a deposit as a result! Interesting as I have just been given a mortgage to buy the new build. Then I told the guy about this offer and he cut me off! When I got to the options team, I passed the credit check and had no issues. Just got to wait 3 weeks for an engineer now.

    Hi,
Thanks for yet another great thread on MSE; this should hopefully save me some much needed cash with moving house at the end of the week (and already skint)!

Just a query if someone would be so kind – I’m wanting to take out SKY TV, Broadband & Phone once I get my line up and running but not sure if having Phone with Sky will impact on me being able to make the required calls so I’m not charged the extra money from BT?...........ie just wondered if with Sky including calls in their package it meant I couldn’t fulfil the BT requirements; if so not a big issue as guess I could go with Sky for TV and Broadband and not phone.

    Cheers:beer:

If you go with the Sky deal you will have to pay for line install. Call Sky and explain the situation, they usually do a deal where they'll credit your account with the £130 instead.

Do you mean credit you the £130 for getting the bt line reactivated? I don't suppose they would also give the free skyplus box £17 a month offer with it if so?

Daughter has moved into new rented property with deactivated phoneline and we are trying to see if we can get the line installation fee cut down is this still possible? They will be new customers

What is the best way to go about asking sky for this? The bt offer says reduction of £95 per installation so why would sky credit the account with £130?
    Thanx

Sky were actually refunding £124.99p which is the connection charge for a BT 12 month contract not to be confused with this £29.99p offer. You had to send them a receipt and they credited your Sky Account. Your need to ask Sky if they are still doing this. They may not be as they can now connect lines direct.

I tried to call sky earlier today, I was asking questions here on mse and waiting at the same time as I wanted to query something with them. Crazy as it sounds I was on the phone waiting for 2 hours and 10 minutes!!! it never got answered, I didnt speak to anyone. I was carrying the phone around with me doing other things and just holding. When it first connected it said your call will be answered in 48 minutes so I kept thinking they could answer anytime so kept holding. This was between 4.30pm and 6.40pm. I wonder if they would of ever answered. I then remembered it wasnt a freephone even though I used a geo number I would still be charged per minute as it was over the hour.

Whats the best time to ring them? has anyone used this offer succesfully?
    Thanx

  • I read Martin's write up last week re BT's special offer of getting a telephone line 'installed or reconnected for £29.99' and advised my stepson, who relied totally on his mobile, that now was the time to get a landline installed.

He contacted BT who told him quite categorically that as there was no landline in the property its installation would cost him £125. He argued that this was not stated anywhere, but BT remained resolute. They said they were not reponsible for the 'misinformation' on other websites!

Indeed when I subsequently scanned notice 25/08 I can't see the word 'installation' anywhere, only 'line connection'. So whilst I have little or no regard for BT's generally confused customer staff, it seems this time they have got it right. Perhaps Martin should remove the word 'installed' from his blurb?
