What 'good deals' from Sky attract you? Their £5/month Sky Talk Anytime package (inclusive calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers and to 20 international destinations) is undoubtedly good value but has to be seen in the light of their excessive charges for 0845 and 0870 calls and the fact that you can't avoid Sky's charges and 'hop back onto BT' because they now ignore the 1280 prefix..
If you don't need the international calls, there are better options available.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I read earlier in the thread the offer quoted in BT notice 25/08 has been extended until the end of Dec 08 as from the 01 Oct.
If we call to ask for this offer - do we still quote the notice 25/08 or has a newer reference been issued ?
Just to make sure I don't miss anything
I need to arrange Direct debit payment - correct ??
and I need to ask for paperless billing - correct ??
anything else I need to clarify to avoid nasty suprises later ??
I know I need to make 10 calls per month and that these can be inclusive
calls from whichever call-plan I opt for.
Thanks

Welcome Gym Junkie.
Its now 35/08. See the link in the updated original post in this thread.
Their is no particular requirement to how you pay, and you can have paper billing if you wish, but your line rental would be dearer of course.0 -
BT are still claiming that the £29.99 connection is opnly for people transfering from Virgin. The girl I spoke to put me on hold to speak to her manager and then disconnected me and oput me back through to another advisor who wanted me to go through it all again.
I don't live in a new build property and there is a phone point in the flat yet they are still insisting on a £124.99 connection charge.
Is there anyway of getting around this. They said it may have been because the phone line was previosuly with Talk Talk. Can I get talk talk to reconnect it or will they just send me back to BT??0 -
to answer my question just for clarification... i took out this £29.99 offer
can i get my calls from another provider (still pay BT line rental)???? e.g Sky etc? without being penalised?
anyone?0 -

I tried asking for the £29.99 installation charge and was told the same thing. Luckily they had previously sent me a letter implying they believed I was with Virgin. I have no phone line currently and assume that a previous owner was with Virgin (although bizarrely when I tried to connect to Virgin I was told they do not service my property).
Anyway, I mentioned that I did not have a phone line but it looked as if according to their records the property used to be with Virgin, and they agreed to connect me for the reduced price. I am not sure whether they can tell I received a letter from them, but could be worth trying?0 -

I think you can, but the problem is that you have to make 10 chargeable or chargeable inclusive phone calls a month via BT as part of the reduced connection charge. There is a way to route numbers via BT by prefixing you call with a certain number when your calls are through another supplier - this may be a way around it so that you make the minimum amount of calls via BT and not be in breach of the contract.0 -

I was quoted £29.99 based on 18 month contract a few days ago to go back to BT from Talk Talk. In the meantime I received a letter from BT (I was with them before Talk Talk) with an offer £10.50 per month, free eve and weekend calls, no connection fee! I have now switched but it may have been based on me being a previous customer of BT. It might be negotiable. I had had enough of Talk Talk and glad to go back to BT, but what a rip off even paying £29.99, if you have an active line already. Not acceptable, in my opinion.0
