Yes blue_monkey, I said simple, not stupid!
If you were a buyer and the suite was £500, you would be aware that the delivery cost were large , so you wouldn't pay by PayPal! you would collect it...
The point of my post which seem to have been missed ,was that if someone will only pay via PayPal, then they accept the delivery costs, or they don't bid. see, it is that simple0 -

If you have a large item to sell, then a listing which includes a fair delivery charge, with a trackable postal or courier price applicable to the item ( it's not too difficult to source a price) should sort out the genuine buyers who choose to pay via PayPal. They accept the extra costs involved (which give both buyer and seller protection)
Yes I know they can claim item not as described but the buyer is then responsible for the return costs., plus actually getting the item sent off. Lots of good photographs and a good description would help to prevent those sort of claims.
If the listing also includes local pickup/delivery option with cash payment , then both seller and buyer are happy.
I think you hav eover simplified it. At present many of us do exactly what you suggest ie we show a fair delivery charge (albeit high in many cases) but also offer th eoption of cash on colelction. However the new rules will state that we can no longer offer cash on collection but paypal only even where buyer opts to collect.
Obviously the seller can remove the option to collect and just have paypal as required with item being posted, but this is obviously inpractical for three piece suites or huge items that at the moment tend to go to local people who are happy to arrange a van or friend with a van to collect knowing they have got themselves a bargain. Ther eis even a very long thread on the England board about finding locla bargains on ebay and many peopl ehave kitted out their house with furniture all collected locally from ebay selelrs and paid for in cash.
In future the only way to stay safe is to opt not to sell large items, but to dump them instead or freecycle them, so the sellers lose out as do the buyers who can no longer find these local bargains through ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hug eproblems with thi sone. I quote £100 to hire a van and deliver my 3 piece suite to a buyer and I still lose a paypal chargeback as I have no proof of delivery. Items must be carried via Royal mail or DHL to fulfil the paypal requirements and I think that the upper weight limits will preclude most of those options.
Also what is to stop someone choosing to collect and opting to pay by paypal? It will be quite OK to do that under the new rules as we can't refuse to accept a paypal payment without risking a non performing seller complaint.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ah, I just emailed Watchdog to see if they can feature it to make as many people aware as possible.0

Actually pseudo I choose to buy your £500 suite because you would accept Paypal where my credit card is listed.... I do not have the cash. Where is the problem? You have Paypal listed as being accepted.
You asked whether you was simple so I outlined it for you, I was trying not to say you was simple but you just don't seem to get it. Have you heard of Parcelforce, DHL or the like taking a fridge, freezer or 3 piece suite.... ah, though not!! No online tracking methid by the agreed Paypal couriers then the buyer will get a refund.
Fair enough, refuse the Paypal payment but then you will have paid the fees for nothing, plus you'll get a neg. Also the big one, the buyer might not have the 'cash' to spend, he might be buying it on his credit card and that is why he chose to buy from you, because you was offering Paypal.
How long before you have a string of negatives for not following through with a sale?
We shall see......0 -
Soolin, does it state that if you offer PayPal then the buyer must pay by that method?
Surely, there is nowhere that states you can only purchase an item using PayPal
Does it definetly state you cannot offer within the listing description cash on collection or local delivery?
I will accept Paypal for delivered items providing the buyer accepts the costs of delivery
Buyers of items for local pickup will opt to pay cash.0 -
Thank you blue-monker for purchasing my lovely suite and agreeing to pay viay PayPal.pseudopensioner wrote: »Soolin, does it state that if you offer PayPal then the buyer must pay buy that method?

You have agreed to a delivery charge of £500.
Here is my invoice for your total purchase price.

I think we must agree to differ here then as I can't think how else to explain this.
My only thought would be to say I will pay you £100 for your sofa by paypal and I will be along to colelct it in two days. if you try to charge me postage I will report you as a non performing seller or I will allow you to charge me that and then just chargeback the lot after I safely have your sofa..obviously you will lose that claim as you can't prove delivery.
if you refuse my paypal payment on the item I am collecting I will report you for being a non performing seller and also for being in breach of your own auction terms which state you accept paypal *and* I will leave you a neg (that you can't return) stating that you refused to sell me an item.

You can still offer cash on colelction but you *must* also accept paypal even omn collected items. So as a buyer I will prefer to use paypal as I can pay via my credit card and dely my actually having to pay for the goods. Buyers will not be obliged to pay by paypal but you can't stop them doing so if they wish to.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. here is my listing for a phograph of a very nice wardrobe ( Ive already sold my lovely 3 piece suite and lost a lot of money due to an unscrupulous buyer ...blue-monkey)
So if you wish to purchase the photograph of the wardrobe, and please note, it is a PHOTOGRAPH I will accept payment via PayPal.
Forgot to mention, I have a loveley photograph of blue-monkey at home, sitting on the suite she claims she never received! (but that phograph is only for selected bidders in the fraud squad.......
Should you have further questions or have a desire to look at the original item on which the photograph is based please contact me0
