What The F***!!!!!!!!
I admit that I do not frequent these boards much these days so this has probably been discussed.
I have stopped selling on eBay for personal reasons but I used to run my business from there but no more and I do not read the updates and stuff but I have received an email via Auctiva and as I was looking at getting rid of my buggy I am just stunned by it's contents.
I am/was putting that on eBay as collection only as it is worth a lot of money and might get damaged in the mail nd couriers do not cover it on insurance. It is worth £500 2nd hand with all the 'extras' that I have to go with it so it would be daft to send i in the mail.
But apparently I have to offer Paypal on all eBay listings. This is open to huge abuse if some collects something from you and then pays via Paypal and claims it has not been collected.
I have to wonder !!!!!! Ebay think they are doing these days? They seem to be happy to cripple their own business with these stupid policies they are bringing in left right and centre. I will never use them for my business again and will just use my own website. I feel for the poor naive people who are happily listing and will then get shafted by buyers who know they can defraud them, buy something for a huge amount of money and do a chargeback knowing the buyer has no POD.
So, what now? Is there any option - or point - in selling something for local collection or pick up only?? I think I would rather change my local car boot sale now. I got rid of my other buggy, cash, at a boot sale for £400, not even any haggling on the price. I guess that is what I am going to have to do.
You are receiving this email because you requested Auctiva email updates.

Yes we have been discussing this for a while and most of us are as unhappy as you about it. There is a thread from yesterday evening where I linked to the ebay forum discussion on this and where I noted that many sellers on ebay didn't actually see this as a problem! I really can't see how sellers don't see this is a problem.
If I can locate the thread I may merge the posts.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank Soo, I will have a look, sorry, as I say I have personal stuff going on and did not realise until this email came through today.0

well if you want to sell you have to refuse to accept paypal, ebay policies be damned. Cash on collection, not much ebay can do about that.
perhaps worth emailing ebay to explain your problem, perhaps they will come back with a helpful reply.0 -
Hiya
Just saw this thread and i sell a lot collection and ask for paypal?? It never occured to me that its open to abuse as blue monkey said.
Can someone correct me if im wrong but surely if they paid cash on collection they could say to ebay item wasnt collected. (I know they wouldnt have paypals guarantees if it was cash , wouldnt ebay step in to help with a cash dispute)0 -

Ebay only care about paypal disputes.
As word spreads about the vulrability of taking paypal on collection, expect the scams to increase."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Ebay can do a lot about people breaking the rules, in fact they just have to sit back and wait for people to make complaints about the seller and then suspend them under the 'bottom 5% of sellers' rule. This has been discussed at great length elsewhere, including the ebay forums and there are no exclusions currently allowed. If you offer paypal , which we will be obliged to do shortly, then you must also accept it. failure to accept paypal will result in complaints against the seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Any seller that accepts paypal on a collected item is asking for trouble. Under paypals own terms and conditions in cases of a dispute about non receipt of an item the seller must show online tracking proving that the buyer received the item. If there is no online tracking via one of paypal's only stated postal methods the buyer will get their money back.
Now you see why we are so worried about paypal being compulsory even on collected items.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I know it says online tracking but surely if a buyer signs a receipt form from the seller and then tries to claim from paypal it is fraud and that is then up to ebay/paypal to take action against the seller or for the police to become involved?
Otherwise paypal are advocating theft? Also sellers will stop selling larger items which will hit them where it hurts in their profits.0 -

Nope, read the rules about proving delivery.
Anyway, are you suggesting somehow that paypal have copies of all our signatures against which the paper receipt can be checked, or will they pay for handwriting experts to check each bit of paper waved at them? If I was a scammer surely all I would do is say you signed a bit of paper when you received the item (having signed it myself of course) and if you queried the fact that the signature differed to your normal one I would accuse you of trying to defraud me by deliberately using a false signature on the receipt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It's mainly the smaller sellers who sell collection only items.
It seems it's the smaller sellers ebay want to get shot of.
Given that ebay are talking about allowing free listing of business entire inventory, clearly some space on the servers will need to be made..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
