    Hello fellow peeps

I not had a bad day today. Managed to get a half day off from work, so I've spent this afternoon cooking and playing with DS (2yrs old). I was pleased as I magaged to get a massive bag of chicken breasts for £1 per bag from my local Sun Valley (local chicken producer). I made a big batch of veg and chicken soup, a red wine and onion casserole and an apple crumble (apples from neighbours tree!)

It might sound sad but I'm really pleased that most of the "ready" meals in my freezer are now home made. The thought of apple crumble is making me hungry:D . Sorry to hear that some of you are ill today. Hope you all get better soon.

    Take care

  • I dont think its sad at all Powie, Ive had a big cook up recently and froze loads of ready meals and its really satisfying. I dont think I could bear to go back to supermarket ready meals now, they just dont taste as nice, they are not filling or give the same sense of satisfaction.

Agreed in full with both of you.

I know where my next ready meal came from because I made it :)

Shopping day today, plus a visit to the library and the local market for veg and eggs.our monthly shop at Tesco.... bill was £62, not bad considering that I bought Liver, prok joint, mince, 2lbs of braising steak, gammon and bacon as well as the usual store cupboard bits.
    ,
I was pleased that we managed last month to feed ourselves from the freezer for the two weeks after we came home from holiday.

Since I came home I have cooked supper and also prepared a stew to cook in the slow cooker overnight on econ 7. Not much else done, having problems with my right hip, so had to sit for a while until the pain went off, not sure if I have strained a muscle or if it might be the start of arthritis.......oh gosh I hope not...... then again it could be the famous fibromyalgia rearing its head, about time I had another go at that, its 4 years since I last had a flare up.......

Off into the kitchen to do the washing up and make a ring of scone..... need to cheer myself up.......

Had a bit of luck money-wise at ToysRus today. :) Went to collect both bikes and decided to sit DS2 on the various bikes to see which one was best size-wise etc, but all he wanted to do was play on the 3-wheeled Bob The Builder scooter - we have one and it's his fave toy (was his brother's so lots of value for money :D) In the end, he decided he liked the bigger 2 wheeled scooters the best and I bought him one - £20 :D Bargain - I was expecting to fork out up to £70 for a bike.

Another family taking a trip to Toysrus today! My DS has finally given up his dummies at bedtime. We promised him ages ago that when he decided to give them up he could have a ''big'' toy. So we took a trip round ToysRus. I hate the place (they look at you like you're a thief and they once refused me a refund etc etc) but we went round so DS could have a look round to see what he would like (with guidance from us of course!). He saw a go-cart (£89.99) and had a go on it. He decided he wanted one of those. Had seen the identical one for £69.99 in argos but thought we'd check out tesco toy section first [my budget was nothing over £30]. They had a Batman go-cart for £39.99 (DS not bothered by colours) so took the £39.99 go-cart to the checkout, handed over coupons as it was tesco - amount to pay £5.59. One smiling happy child and a smiling happy mother as well :D:D [have saved over £20 earlier inthe week with coupons so although i paid £5.59 tonight, i am still ''in profit'' for the week)
  • Morning All

Another rough night  Weather here this morning is wet.

2 washloads today to do (one being our bedding), 20 min blitz-OH will probably do this :D

Did a chicken curry for dinner with rice last night-which we all enjoyed, using left over chicken. Then we watched Lost-brilliant! I was in bed for 9 after having a bath  OH was sorting his computer out as he needed new parts, which arrived yesterday and had stopped working.

Today, not much to do really but will catch up later. Lunch will be breaded cod, mash & peas. Dinner will be toad-in-hole, roast spuds & carrots.

Morning Penny Pincher, morning Sparklewing

Sorry to hear you have had a rough night again Penny Pincher, I cannot imagine how you are coping with the lack of sleep. I'm simply dreadful if I have disturbed sleep (can't focus, forget things etc.). You are an inspiration.

Sparklewing, I don't get on the MS site much as I am packing to move home (so you may have already done this), but have you tried asking for advise on the mortgage / debt boards? They appear to be a good source of advice in this situation.

As far as the roasted veggies are concerned - I can help. I roughly chop my veggies - last night it was onions, sweet potato and butternut squash (the last bits and pieces in the veg rack!) - lay them in a roasting tray and drizzle olive oil over. I put them in the oven for about 25 minutes at gas 6. Oven setting is not that accurate - my oven is one of those that is hot at the top and almost cold at the bottom! If I am putting a casserole or a tray of chicken at the top I simply put the tray of veggies in earlier.

Sometimes I do a twist of black pepper over the top of the veggies - other times I have sprinkled with shredded basil leaves.

I love making roast veggies - so quick and simple and you can pop them in the oven with the rest of the meal and nip back on line to the OS forum :D OH thinks I've slaved to make him a wonderful meal.
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
