  • Someone needs to start an oldstyler 'how to get a good nights sleep' thread!

I need a 'how to stay awake thread' as today I am working from 9 am this morning til 2am tommorow morning - with no break!
errrk - dont even want to think about it - (shudder!)

especially as i have a cold and am feeling rotton!

I dont often have anything to post on this thread - tommorow am planning on cooking carrot soup from scratch and then batch freezing it to use in my new flask!
Tonight i dont have to pay for/make food as i get fed at work (sort of, I run chocolate fountains so I just munch things on the job!)

I will be up and online at about 3am if anyone is still awake and fancies a chat!
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!

    Good afternoon all,

Blimmin' freeeezing here today, that wind is rather keen!! So much planned for my day off today but ended up abandoning it all and going to town with mother. It was obviously my day to go, walked into a charity shop to look at fabric and fell in love with an oil painting, couldn't see the price, thought it said £14.99 and thought, yep - i'll have that, got to the till and it was only £4.99!!! Next shop I walked into - there was the winter coat i've been looking for! I could have almost danced naked in the street, if it hadn't have been so cold!! Popped into superdrug to get some hairspray and it was BOGOF and so was the conditioner I use.....I didn't bother looking for anything else - didn't want to spoil my luck!

Mother got wool and pattern to knit DD's a new poncho each for xmas, they look so snug I might want one too.

Stripped the bed before I went and will go up in the loft in a mo and sort out the winter duvets, far to cold last night, even with a throw on the bed. Will get summer duvets washed over the weekend when it's dry so that I can get them on the line. Want to get all my nets down at the weekend too so that I can give them a wash and get all the windows cleaned before the heating goes on....the advantage of living in a bungalow is that DH can wash the outsides while I do the insides and we can see any bits we've missed.

Liver and bacon for tea tonight with mash and veg, will do some sausages for DD's as they don't like liver, but will make them eat a bit first just cos i'm mean!!

Day off again tomorrow and want to empty wardrobes and give them all a clean and hoover out, sort all the summer shoes and pack them away and go through DH's shirts and ties to see what's past it's best, also need to sort out under the bed.......i dread to think what's under there......

Right must get in the loft before the school run or we'll all be very cold tonight!

    Take care all...

  • Afternoon everyone :hello:

Just noticed the time and I've got virtually nothing done today!!!

I am feeling rather poorly though and struggling to just sit here and read the posts at mo! Seem to have woke up with a bad chest infection and aching all over. I think I know how asthmatics feel now as I can barely catch my breath and chest hurts when I breathe or cough :( ... i think now might be a good time to give up smoking as I certainly can't face having one today :o

Just bleeding typical though isn't it as arrangements have been made to try get me up to the hospital to visit eldest tomorrow, which I've spent the last 24 hrs panicking over, and now I might not be able to go if I'm ill :wall: ... not to mention anxiety attacks and chest infections don't go very well together ... ouch!!! :(

My meal plan ran out today and I forgot to make a new one yesterday so no idea what's for dinner yet! Don't want to resort to buying take-away so will see if DS fancies knocking up something quick for us ;)

Oh and sparklewing, I also recommend you go ask on the debt/mortgage boards to see if they can offer any advice. Been down that route myself and lost my house in similar circumstances so wouldn't wish that nightmare on anybody. If only MSE had been around back then maybe I could have got some good advice and stopped it happening, who knows

    Good luck hun *hugs* xxx

  • afternoon all, well...i have had the decorators in today, they come every thursday and are the lads from community service, slowly but surely they are going to decorate the whole house, i supply the tea, coffee etc and the materials and they supply the labour, so from 9.30-3.30 every thursday my house gets turned upside down lol...anyway it sort of looks back to normal now! therefore havent got much done today and usually try and stay out of the house on a thursday coz i just get in their way!!

kids having a snack type meal this evening coz of time and i might knock myself up something later when they are in bed!

spent 2.00 in tesco today for a sarnie for me and then took my little girl round a friends house as she fed her lunch and me endless cups of tea.

have a full day planned for tomorrow plenty of OS'ing and baking plus a bit of shopping (food)

    Hi All

Not been around the last couple of days so loads of catching up to do. I've been so busy. Had loads of meetings and press calls on Tuesday, then yesterday went to London for the presentation of the Freedom of Eastbourne to Martina Navratilova - she's really nice. I was out reporting most of this morning too, and got a meeting most of tomorrow, so I'm completely lost as to where I am.

Love being busy though. Even though it does mean I'm running myself into the ground. I don't even know what day of the week it is most of the time.

Not eating very well either with running around so much, I just tend to grab what I can when I can.

    Hope everyone's ok

    evening all!
We made chelsea buns again in the BM (dough only)but they were no where near as nice as last time.I think the scales are on their way out as they kept jumping back to zero.
Went out this morning as DD has a cold and not really in the mood for learning Shakespeare. We looked around the charity shops and found a couple of nice mugs as one was dropped yesterday and I realised we were getting a bit low on spares.DD found some 'interesting' nail varnish for 10p and I found 2 bottles of lavender essential oil for 10p each :p
I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours hacking away at the undergrowth at the bottom of the garden. It goes back a long way and is all trees, brambles and Ivy but if I dont keep it back,it will be up to the veg patch and taking over. There were some berries still on the brambles but they are almost tasteless now. It did warm me up though.
I have lettuce, rocket, radish, cabbage and onions planted in the greenhouse and starting to show through the mud and also 2 pots with potatoes in,one of which has just started to poke through too.I think I might have to make a section under the staging with bubblewrap though if it gets much colder or they'll probably just die.

    Evening all,

Finally made it to the computer, seem to have been running around all day but not managed to accomplish much - dont you hate that?

Having said that I did make a BUGE batch of HM muesi this morning and it is scrummy. All the ingredients cost about £2.40 and I've got 3kg of it :T
So thats me sorted for the next month :D

weather not fab here either but did manage one line dry, they rest is strung up in the bathroom and should be dry in the morning. Not quite cold enough for heating here, well prob is really but am loath to put it on. Got a letter form npower this morning to say they were increasing my DD payments in line with their price increase - another £6 a month  so the kids are just wearing more layers than usual instead

Am off now to do OH's dinner, I swear if I didn't he would quite happily starve - MEN!!!

Hope you all have a good night,
    Al.

    Hello all!

A little early to start this thread, but I figure id do it now as I simply wont be able to post tomorrow and I wanted to babble about things...

Anyway, ive been on a training course with work today in Swindon, and have to again tomorrow, and at first I didnt want to be there (I felt like I was in playschool, the room we were in had toys and fluffy pens and coloured paper etc) but then really enjoyed it. The colurful stuff was a psychological learning aid I later found out. Also, for some odd reason (ive never been a confident public speaker) I ended up being the spokesperson for my group and someone told me I was really good at explaining things, which boosted my confidence a bit! Im looking forward to tomorrow now!

I had 2 fun bits of mail when I got home today, one saying my tax credits claim was successful (SWEET!!! £76 per month which somes 2 days before pay day and I had £6 in my bank today) and the other was a missed delivery card, so I have a couple of parcels to pick up tomorrow (yey yey yey). Ive ordered some mugs and blockbuster video rental vouchers from pigsback with my points, have had £30 returned to me loaned to a friend a while ago, and worked out my mileage for the training for work actually pays me almost double the cost of my petrol so im making a profit of £30 which only takes a week to be credited to me.

Im working 3 x saturday this month so next months pay will be hefty, and ill get my overpaid tax back along with my new bonus for being trained in something else, and im doing well in my new job (2 managers have told me im ahead of where I should be, and I impressed the trainer today with an obscure piece of knowledge no-one in my group knew).

Im very happy. Boyf has a gig tomorrow night and ive been given a free ticket to get in, so it will be a good night. My extra moneyspinning is going to be put in the bank so when I next get paid I can buy the sofa I want outright without credit, or pay off the credit card balance (but I think ill pay off the cc balance then use it for the sofa to re-start the interest free bit).

I havent had much time this week to be o/s, although I have made hm pizza's and burgers etc, but on Saturday afternoon im going to have a thorough clean up and laundry day, so I can spend the whole of my sunday chilling out before I go back to work on Monday. Ill do some batch cooking too I think because ive been buying apricot danish pastry's on my way to work and ill like to make my own - but they are only 57p so not too bad (coffee is free at work!) Does anyone have a danish pastry recipe and know how much they cost per piece for a comparison?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday, I certainly will!

    Jo xx

  • Hi jw. glad to hear you're gettin on so well, both at work and financially.

I do have recipe for danish pastries, I shall dig it out. They are quite a faff to make, (lots of rolling and folding etc) and I'm not sure of the price comparison. Do you have a breadmaker, as the recipe I have is from my best breadmaker book?

Any way, friday is nearly here and it brings PAYDAY yey.:j Have actually got to thie end of this month with the OD £200.00 less than last month and we've had loads to pay out too. This month the spending will be high as both cars =need some work, and I have just joined the AA (25% discount for OH being an Istitute of advanced motorist member), So another cutback on the grocery spending is in order I feel.

Have got a few ebay bargains for the littlest member of the family, and have bagfuls of stuff to sort this weekend to sell on ebay so that will give me plenty to do.
Got my monthtly shop coming from tesco online, and have ordered the ingredients to make my christmsas cake, puddings and mincemeat.
Can't wait to start that as it always makes me feel that Autumn has finally arrived, ( my feet are freezing so I know it has).

Have a good friday everyone, and hugs to all.
