I've been charity shop scouring this morning.
I wanted a mini watering can for the greenhouse and saw then for £3 in woolies but found one for 50p in the RSPCA shop.
DS asked if we could get him some gloves as he gets cold hands when he goes out in the mornings. He has huge hands! I found a pair of wool and thinsulate for 25p at the same shop
I've been looking for a light to use in the shed,I wanted a battery light as there's no electricity down there and found a solar/rechargable one in the Cats protection league for £1
We made some chelsea buns in the breadmaker yesterday(just the dough) which came out really well.I've never made anything but bread in it before.
Tea today will be HM burgers and shop bought oven chips with salad.
DD has gone to karate with OH.She is now an orange belt, she only needs one more belt to equal OH (he doesnt do it anymore but is thinking of starting up again with DS in the new year).0 -

Hi everyone,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STELLA! I always feel a little sorry for myself on my Birthday, I dont know why really. So Indulge yourself, and do something for yourself that you enjoy doing.
Squeaky your cookathon sounds yummy!
Ticklemouse, I know what you mean about Old Style. I only really started to do more OS things whilst I was off work in the summer holidays, as I thought I didnt have enough time before. Now Im back at work Im being as Old Style as I can, and yes it is more time consuming, but Im really enjoying it and get a great sense of satisfaction.
Both my DD's have had friends round for tea and I made fairy cakes to keep them going. Both guests said how yummy they were, and the whole lot were demolished within minutes. I also had a big ccok up and made loads of frozen home cooked ready meals, I cant bring myself to go back to shop bought because HM is so much nicer!
I used to not enjoy the weekend because the house was always so messy, I felt like all I did was tidying up, now I really enjoy it as it my time to do all my Old Styling things without life getting in the way.
I think if I won the lotto tomorrow, I would try and retain as many OS ways as possible, so it definately isnt all about money.
Now Ive rambled on a bit, I'd best go and do something productive! Enjoy the rest of the day! :wave:0 -
Good afternoon everyone :hello:
Went to my friends last night (she had a jewellery party) - didn't spend any money (yipee) but got very drunk!!
Felt like death all day, but I'm starting to get some colour back in my cheeks!! That'll teach me!!
Tonight I'm making a HM pizza for DD and (I'm so excited about this!!) DH and me will be trying Curry Queens chicken korma!!
Apart from dinner not a very OS day at all (which is a shame because MIL took DD out for the day and DH is at work so I could have done loads of things!!)
As I'm feeling better I'm going to stick a load of washing on and clean down the kitchen cupboards - so at least I can feel I've achieved something!!
Take care everyone!Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -

Anyway, baking all done. Didn't have any mushroom for the chicken pie sauce and there weren't enough to be worth opening a tin for so I just combined a chicken stock cube with cornflour and about two tbsps of milk, pinch each of ginger, garlic, paprika and mixed herbs, with a dash of salt and pepper. Then just drizzled it over the chicken. No idea what they taste like but they smelled delicious as they came out of the oven.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. It's so nice to get back on here & catch up; I haven't had chance since I came back from holiday last weekend.
OH is at work so I've baked a batch of flapjack, hoovered, mopped the kitchen floor & a load of washing is out on the line in the sunshine. I'm just psyching myself up to tackle the holiday ironing mountain!
Feeling a bit sad this afternoon, as I had to take my poor old bunny to the vets at lunchtime & have her put down. She was really old (for a rabbit - 6) so it's for the best. It wasn't very money saving though - £108! The only other option was wait til Monday & take her to regular surgery, but I couldn't bear to watch her suffer all weekend.
Right, where's the ironing board......................0 -
it's a lovely day here, so washload no1 has been out and dried, washload no2 now out, well you have to make the most of the weather! most of the mountain of ironing done. made cauliflower cheese, kids love it( one way to get veg down them) and had a go at making some scones which have turned out pretty well. Lucie sorry to hear the sad news of your bunny you,ve done the right thing getting her to the vets today. hope your not feeling to down...0

awww sorry to hear about your rabbit lucie,i was quite shocked when i saw how much you payed the vet  as i had a rabbit put to sleep two years ago and it was £53 and that was on a sunday too.0
-
I'm shocked that they would charge you at all!!! I was much younger when we had our cat put down and I had no idea it cost anything, god where have I been living in, head in the flippin clouds! I am so sorry to hear about your bunny. Our adopted cat died on Monday, she had only been living with us for a year but I was very upset. She hadn't been ill though it was just old age, she took herself off to a neigbours garden and went to sleep in her bush. They have buried her there as well which is really nice.
I hope that you are feeling ok, keep smiling.0 -
love the old style board and this thread. i don't post much but i read avidly.
i've decided to join in and will try to post regularly. we are currently developing our property and most of the outside was painted today and it looks fantastic and has given me a huge lift. (i suffer from depression and social anxiety). it had been half done for ages and a bloke came round the other day and said he would do it for £40!. bargain, especially as it was a big job and dh doesn't keep well either. he's coming back next weekend to finish it. DH had a mad rush to make sure we had enough paint.
feel really good about today especially as we got quite a lot done, did usual tidying the kitchen, emptying and loading dishwasher and doing some dishes.
we then finally got round to cutting the grass, (our lawnmower had packed in after one use, so DH returned it and bought a cheaper one which was the business). i strimmed the edges and some weeds that we haven't got rid of yet. front garden is looking great.
we then made a soup with a turkey leg we got reduced and loads of veg that was in the fridge. will tell you how it tastes tomorrow, smells great.
i could go on but i'll leave some for tomorrow lol:love: married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090
