I am so glad that you are realising that sometimes you have to put yourself first - or there will be nothing there to give.

Great idea to arrange to get the physical problems checked as these also affect emotional issues.

Brilliant idea to try to get yourself better ready for the house move and your son needing you.

Don't worry about choosing different subjects - mine have gone completely the opposite from my skills too - but it was for the right reasons.

I know, I think sometimes we expect our kids to be little clones of ourselves and when they develop a mind of their own it can be hard to swallow! I've been telling my youngest for the last year or so that I want him to either be a vet or a chef, but I guess it's time to let him make his own decisions ... he is almost a teenager after all! ;)

Arghhhhh that's scary admitting that your youngest is almost a teenager  _pale_

I hate to tell you but that is the best way to put them off anything.

We always said that whatever our daughters wanted to do that we would do our best to be supportive - but still got misunderstood.

  • CQ - I have no experience of what you're going through, but just wanted to send ((((hugs)))) and to say I'm thinking of you and your family and that I hope everything works out well, and speedily too. We're always here if you need to get things off your chest and I think I've a little space in my inbox if you want to pm.

So, today - managed the airport run, but I was most unimpressed to think that the first 30 mins of car park time cost me £2.30 amd it took me 25 mins to find a spot !! To think I paid them for the priviledge of driving 2 miles up and down their blasted car park  At least picked auntie up OK, took her to mum's where I made lunch then did mum's shopping.

Rushed back to do school runs etc, only to find that a teacher of one of the kids I pick up said to another of my charges " is she NEVER on time, that woman?" Luckily, other charge told her I had to pick up my own kids from another school first!! What makes me mad is that the girl's mum told the school I would be 10 mins late picking her up AND I have to wait for her elder brother - who comes out 10 mins late anyway and they said OK, her teacher would wait with her. I'm not a happy bunny as far as she is concerned :( Hopefully, girl's parents will say something as I told them.

Anyway, house smells of spag bol and garlic bread which went down a storm, as did the 2nd fruity loaf I made today. Must get something out of freezer tonight for tomorrow, while I think of it. I think if I have the time and inclination, I may have a go at the HM yog tonight. I bought a fresh natural yog today, in readiness :)

OK, off to ready 2 tired boys for bed.

Afternoon all! This week has been really busy so far, 3 girls at work are off sick and one is on holiday, and im new, so have I been thrown in the deep end or what! Its all good though because Im learning a lot and then coming home shattered so i know im working hard!

I have to go on a training course in swindon next week which should be immensely boring, simply because I think I probably know all of what they are going to teach me anyway, but at least Ill get out of the branch for two days - But then im working on Saturday anyway so Ill be as busy as ever. Things are slowly falling into place at home, a lot of my address change things are done, the flat is as organised as it can be until I get more furniture etc (with the exception of one large box full of bits that can go in the loft) and I get paid soon, so I know the rent will be covered.

Ive also sold the first of my uni text books today, so im going to pack that up and post it out tomorrow morning - another £9 to my pot. Ive also filled in the application forms for both boyf and I to have ISA's, im going to start us both a savings pot - mine will have the bank account dregs at the end of the month, my small change pot and pin money (and also bonuses from work which I get in vouchers every quarter and a cash bonus annually) - at least then ill be a little bit safer in the knowledge that there is a bit of money available for emergencies. Boyf's will contain his small change and pin money (when I teach him how to do it!) and bank account dregs.

Anyway, id better go, I have a lot of stuff do to this evening, including steak for dinner (YUM!) and a bed sheet change is due...

Oh don't worry, I know exactly what you mean and would never actually pressurise any of the kids into doing anything (education/career wise) they didn't want to do. I just drop gentle hints every now and then that it would be good to have a chef or a vet in the family, seeing as I failed to fully achieve either ;)

I do fully support them in whatever it is they want to do, and if that's something totally different to what I'd want for them then so be it. Youngest wants to be a footballer of course, and play for Man U  ... and although he is a really good player right now, and has a chance to go far, I gently remind him that it would be a good idea to study well too, just in case he never made it as a top player, so he could do go to college and do sports sciences and maybe become a coach or a manager instead :D

  • TM- that's not on for a teacher to make such remarks, especially as it was pre-arranged, so I hope something is said so it doesn't happen again!

And you talking of fruity loaves ... we're at it again! LOL! I made a cinnamon raisin loaf yesterday, which DS has just finished off and would only allow me one bite out of the last slice  ... so looks like I'll have to make another one tomorrow :D

I'm intrigued to know what you're getting out of the freezer for tomorrow's dinner though as I haven't even given it a thought yet! ... think fish n chips are on the cards for tonight as I'm just about to go and pour myself a huge glass of wine :D

Erm - I was thinking about getting the fish out and having it with chips. I must start making inroads into the contents of my freezer so that I can stock it properly for Xmas. However, I have some venison burgers in there, some quarter-pounders, some chicken, lamb shanks, lots of fruit and veg....... don't want mince as had it 2 nights running. I shall have a think and perhaps investigate, you never know what I may find. Shall I let you know so that we can co-ordinate? :D

Hmmmmm, wine.......now, a nice whiskey and american wouldn't go amiss as the boys are safely tucked up in bed........

I know exactly what you mean Squeaky. When I was at one of my worst points, my "then" CPN suggested I apply for DLA, which I did, but being so ill I obviously didn't know how to fill out the forms properly or what exactly they needed to know so my claim was turned down, and I wasn't in a fit state to appeal the decision. Pity my CPN hadn't volunteered to help me with it, but there you go. It wasn't until some 2 years later, having moved areas and got a new CPN, that it was suggested I apply again, even though I felt somewhat better, but I still had relapses and needed help going out and with care etc. Feeling somewhat more "compus mentus" I did as much research as I could, and talked to various people online about filling out these forms (I wasn't able to just go along to a CAB or welfare place) and they literally took me weeks to complete because it was such heavy going, but needless to say my hard work paid off and I was actually granted the award this time.

This is the only thing that stands me in good stead with filling out my son's forms, as I now have a pretty good understanding of what it is they actually require to know, otherwise he wouldn't have a cat in hell's chance of getting anywhere with them.

From what I can gather he had very little understanding of how even JSA worked, so although he actually applied to sign on at various time, he never managed to fulfill their requirements to maintain an application, so for most of the last couple of years he's had virtually no money. How he's survived all this time gods only knows, apart from the brief times he's spent with me or his dad :(
You finished up wa-a-ay in front of me and lost me completely with JSA's. All I do is maintain all the stuff that was set up for me, gosh, almost ten years ago now. I haven't got a clue. And I'm really not up for a knock down drag out fight with the system if there's anything else I should be doing.

I've got my life sorted to within bounds that I'm comfortable with, I manage quite well, and every now and then I just push my boundaries a step or two further. Slow it might be - but I am moving on... :)
