  • I pan fry the lambs liver ( dusted with flour and mixed herbs first) until just cooked, otherwise it is soooo dry. I serve it with smoked bacon fried onions, mash, veggies and onion gravy. I have tried casseroled liver but always find the liver too dry
  • Ooooh I've not had liver in a very long time! Mum used to do liver and sausage with onions and gravy, all cooked up together in a big frying pan, but like you say, the liver always tasted dry and it was one of those meals you had to grin and bear as a kid as none of use really liked it LOL!

I do actually like liver when it's cooked properly though so it's nice and soft and melts in the mouth  ;)

You have made my mouth water at the thought I shall go to the butchers this morning and get some as I have not had liver for yonks.I can't believe how many foods are for sale ready made in tescos and how dear they are I'm sure thats how they have made such HUGE profits .Did you know that they even sell Bangers and mash ! how lazy is that.
  • I have always loveed lambs liver, but can't abide pigs liver. It has a grainy texture that I hate. I cook klambs liver until it is just 0/pi*nk (2yo typindg alert)

My absolute favourite is calves liver, but it's such a price, but worth it for a special occasion.

I know what you mean about the ready meals Jackie0. I cannot understand the demand for some of these meals. I know people can't cook anymore, but surely they are capable of frying some sausages and boiling potatoes. Bring back proper cookery lessons in school. I really can't understand all the government advice re healty eating on the one hand, and the Cr*p curriculum when it comes to cooking at school. Until children are taught to cook, we will see a bigger rise in childhood & adult obesity.
And as for the salt levels in convenience foods:eek: We started to cut back on salt, before coming to OS, but now I cook absolutely everything from scratch, we cannot tolerate anything ready made at all. Even the kids turn their noses up at things like crisps as they say there too salty.

ooh that got that off me chest me thinks.

    Hello Everyone
    :hello:
Hoping to get off to Lidl for a new washing line as mine has been 'repaired' sooooooo many times and now there are cracks in the plastic coating too.

Salad for tea tonight again - made too much coleslaw last night will use up the last of the tomatoes. The little plants have rewarded me well this year - just when I think we've had the last of them, they produce more.

It looks like it'll be the most beautiful autumn day as soon as the mist clears so hopefully will get a little more gardening done.

I thought I smelled raisin and cinnamon earlier on, it must have been wafting down through the computer

    Bye for now
  • Morning everyone

DS1 is off to school, DS2 is sitting in my bed watching Fifi and the Flowertots, which means I'll get 10 mins on here to myself :D I've already got gammon steaks out of the freezer for tea, although will have to think of an interesting way to cook them, preferably in the slow cooker :D

Have to go and do a mystery shopping job today, but this means I get to drive past an Aldi and a Lidl, and Thursday is the start of their specials day :D Might have to pop in both and see what's what. Need some veg and apple juice anyway - oh, and some dried fruit as the fruity loaves have been going down a treat.

Other than that, I haven't much that I am scheduled to do today. Will vac later as polished living room/dining room yesterday. Kitchen floor needs a mop and I may clean a couple more cupboards out. It's so much easier if you do one or two at once rather than face the whole kitchen in one go. Why didn't I realise this years ago
My understairs cupboard desperately needs sorting - I can hardly shut the door. :)

Right, must print paperwork off for job, then shower, hair wash, dressed and off into town.

    TM

Mmmmmmmmmm liver - but Mr TM wouldn't entertain it so I have to eat offal when he's away. Have steak and kidney in the freezer, ready for such occasions. :)

    Morning all,

A gorgeous autumnal day in the offing here, woke to thick heavy mist and dew but the sun has just started to burn it off, I love this time of year.

An unexpected day off today, a huge pile of ironing to do and I must scrub the bathroom, need to look on the cleaning threads for some ideas for my bathseal that's gone all mildewy for some reason?

HM burgers tonight - mince, grated onion, grated carrot, grated courgette, grated cheese and a handfull of bread crumbs for good measure, a few hebs and an egg to bind. Should make 6 burgers for tea and a portion of mini meatballs for tomorrow night for DD's. Last nights curry was delish, was hoping for a portion left for my lunch but no such luck!

Will try and get some quiches done this morning too - got a trip to the zoo planned for the weekend so being organised with the food mean I can have a lie in!

If I get time I'll try and get some more cards made up - if not I might just sit and watch a film and enjoy the peace and quiet before the school run.

    Have a wonderful day all.
