I found out last year that my husband had £54k of gambling debts. It was quite as shock, and as many people have mentioed, it's the deceit that hurts and the fact that he felt he couldn't tell me he was in trouble. If anyone is in a similar situation contact PayPlan (http://www.payplan.com/). M&S informed us that they are the only company that they would deal with, so we contacted them and they have managed the whole process, from contacting all the debtors, arranging a realistic repayment schedule and getting the interest stopped on all of his debts, so now he just makes one monthly payment.0

Marks and Spencers are probably one of the most responsible lenders out there (in my humble opinion) as they were the first creditor to acknowledge the need to help their customers who were struggling with their finances - most others just said "oh thats a shame - here's a CCJ!!"0
