Double Discount Car Insurance Loophole!

To Happy Shrimper (and others) Just to let you know, my policy was for me and my husband as additional driver. Both of us have speeding points on licence, but I just made sure that both details were mentioned identically on the various quotes, and so they were still like for like. Cheque arrived no problem.
And... when cancelling existing policy, I was told it was illegal to keep a certificate of insurance after the policy was cancelled, and it had to be returned to the insurer immediately.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

If it's not illegal I'm pretty sure you will be breaking their terms and conditions...
And yes it is still available!!! here:
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/insurance/car_insurance/introduction.htm
It still says: "buy from us and if you find a better quote, we'll refund double the difference* "
And the claim form is still there:

So what do you reckon?
I think there'll be quite a few people in my shoes - with policies due to expire in November.
I'll ask Tescos tomorrow what the penalties are for cancelling early.
But...surely if you can take out the policy a month in advance then they have to stand by their promise.
We get a policy to start in November but then find it cheaper elsewhere.....0 -
I got a quote from Nationwide for my son's car insurance. They quoted £1509.
I got a cheaper quote from Zenith of £1077.
Difference £432.
Nationwide refunded double the difference (£864) within 2 weeks of me taking out their policy, making the total cost £645 for the year.0 -

But you need to get the quote *AFTER* the commencement date. That means it won't work as the offer will have expired.0 -

How long did it take from the day you posted the claim for them to come back to you?0 -

I sent a covering letter with the claim form asking them to phone me to let me know if my claim had been accepted or rejected. I also made sure that I sent the letter and form via first class recorded delivery. They phoned me the next day to say that my claim had been accepted.0 -
Hi,
I have tried to detail steps required to ensure success with this offer. Hope this is useful. Others....feel free to add/edit comments in areas i am unclear. Using Norwich Union in my example.
1) Purchase insurance via web from Nationwide before 31st October
2) Get web quote from Norwich Union the next day. Ensure the excess is within £25. Can someone please clarify selections they have used for :
Legal Expenses
Courtesy Car
Foreign Use
European Breakdown cover
Addition Physiotherapy cover
Please note the Nationwide offer includes cover for driving in Europe for up to 90 days, temporary courtesy car and any additional options like legal assistance and breakdown services.
3)Post offer via recorded deliveryFiliss0 -
ps What happens if you change car within the year. Will they requote and charge you difference between what you have paid and new policy?Filiss0

Bell have quoted me £900, and Nationwide £2200 - but my current insurance doesn't expire until 12th November. I noticed there are a few people in this situation. I've emailed Nationwide to ask if the offer would still be valid, provided I actually pay for the policy in advance, ie before the end of the month.
Will update when I get a reply.0 -
Has anyone had any joy with comparing a policy from Admiral/Elephant and Nationwide?0
