lilbitskint - I'd be VERY interested to hear what they say.
Sounds like you've got one of the biggest differences between quotes !
We're in exactly the same position with the cheapest quotes from Bell and policies expiring in November.
As aass11 rightly commented - the 2nd quote has to be obtained within 28 days of the NW policy start date.0 -
OK! They didn't reply to my email, so I phoned them.
They told me that, as long as the policy is actually paid for before the end of the month, then it's fine to have the policy starting in November.
I also checked about having 'overlap' on policies - i.e. taking out NW insurance before I'd cancelled my existing policy, and they said this would make my insurance invalid.
I forgot to ask when the 14 day cooling off period would begin though
edit:
called them back - the cooling off period begins on the policy start date, NOT on the payment date. Brilliant! CazyDee, I see no reason why we can't send in our claim form after we've purchased, but before the start of the policy - meaning we'll have plenty of time to cancel the policy within the cooling off period if our claim fails!0 -

I have tried to detail steps required to ensure success with this offer. Hope this is useful. Others....feel free to add/edit comments in areas i am unclear. Using Norwich Union in my example.
1) Purchase insurance via web from Nationwide before 31st October
2) Get web quote from Norwich Union the next day. Ensure the excess is within £25. Can someone please clarify selections they have used for :
Legal Expenses
Courtesy Car
Foreign Use
European Breakdown cover
Addition Physiotherapy cover
Please note the Nationwide offer includes cover for driving in Europe for up to 90 days, temporary courtesy car and any additional options like legal assistance and breakdown services.
3)Post offer via recorded delivery
I did everything as directed and there was only £30 difference between the quotes so I think I won't bother for that.0 -
I am not a happy bunny. I was running out of time to buy my insurance so purchased from Nationwide (half an hour before due to expire) content in the knowledge that I could invoke the Price Match. But now I can't find anything cheaper!0

Hi lilbitskint,
Did you get the persons name you spoke too? My insurance runs out on 11th November and i can pay before the 31st October. As you pointed out this gives plenty of time to cancel the policy if they fail you. Just want to make sure they don't riddle out of a verbal as i have had probs with this before.
Thanks.Filiss0 -
Lionking - her name was Sarah, but she wouldn't give her surname! She did check with her manager before she gave me the info though. I've emailed Nationwide again nevertheless, and told them I want confirmation in writing. If I get it, I'll post on here and could forward the email to anyone who wants it.0

Hi.
This might apply to others with policies due to end after 31st October 05:
My insurers Tesco offered to freeze my policy rather than cancel. There's no charge for this and where I'm looking at freezing it for over 28 days they'll give me a whole months' refund! Officially my car won't be insured by them and I'm free to get insurance elsewhere. So.... if all fails with NW and I have to cancel their policy within the 14 day cooling-off period then I can just go straight back to Tesco 'till I find something better.
Just going to do some final checks comparing NW and Bell to make sure they're truly like-for-like and I'll go for it.0 -
Just a quick check.
On NU comparisons, which of the following need to be selected?
Protected No Claims?
Extended Euro cover? (Standard 90 day 3rd party)
Euro breakdown?
Legal cover?
Courtsey car standard?
Physio cover?
Gotta do this in the next day or so, so any confirmation much appricated from other NU comparers!
Thanks

My 1st Post on this Board...
Saw this thread on moneysavingexpert.com and thought I'd try it out.
Read through all Posts at the time, got different quotes and decided to use the AA as the Comparable - not the cheapest but understood would be accepted.
Purchased Online Nationwide Comprehensive Policy at £992.25 with £200 Compulsary excess on 4th October 2005.
Entered Details on AA Website for comparable quote with Compulsary excess of £100. NB You will need to change the Voluntary excess to £100 from the default of £150, done this on 5th October 2005. Printed out the quote at home.
Tried to obtain Claim form from 2 different branches - Waste of Time!
More research - Downloaded Claim Form from
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/insurance/car_insurance/introduction.htm
Click on *See Price Promise terms and conditions.
Printed Claims Section of Form, Filled in details, sent Claim Form, home printed AA quote and copy of Motor Insurance Schedule on 7th October 2005.
Received reply around 15th October stating my Claim had been accepted.
Today, 20th October 2005 I received a cheque for £570.88p :j
I effectivey paid £421.37 where all other quotes were in excess of £700...
Thanks to moneysavingexpert.com and all previous posts!0
