OK! They didn't reply to my email, so I phoned them.

They told me that, as long as the policy is actually paid for before the end of the month, then it's fine to have the policy starting in November.

I also checked about having 'overlap' on policies - i.e. taking out NW insurance before I'd cancelled my existing policy, and they said this would make my insurance invalid.

I forgot to ask when the 14 day cooling off period would begin though

    edit:
called them back - the cooling off period begins on the policy start date, NOT on the payment date. Brilliant! CazyDee, I see no reason why we can't send in our claim form after we've purchased, but before the start of the policy - meaning we'll have plenty of time to cancel the policy within the cooling off period if our claim fails!

Hello - I'm in the same boat as my current insurance expires 17 Nov. However, the terms of the Nationwide deal state that the alternative quote must be dated AFTER the commencement of your policy. So the way I see it is we pay for the cover before 31/10, wait until the policy commences, then get an alternative quote and submit claim. It still means we have the benefit of the 14 day cooling off period and are submitting the claim within 28 days of the policy starting. I hope I've got this all right?!

I am not a happy bunny. I was running out of time to buy my insurance so purchased from Nationwide (half an hour before due to expire) content in the knowledge that I could invoke the Price Match. But now I can't find anything cheaper!
So why aren't you happy. At least you have got the cheaperst quote?
  • Hi there,

I need some advice! I took out Nw car insurance and price matched it with Bell. I sent my NW online quotation, my Bell online quotation plus the hardcopy of the NW insurance document off.
Today I received a letter saying that more information was needed, "an original copy of your non-Nationwide car insurance quotation (dated between Oct 11th and Oct 31st). Can anyone tell me what they want and what I should do?

    Thanks a lot,
    Sandra
  • weimaranermerlin, I had the same thing. They want a photocopy of your nationwide insurance policy which you should have recieved through the post now. It seems they don't like the online printout. Stupid really as surely they know what policy you have from your policy number and they know how much you've paid. I sent off what they wanted and got a letter a week later saying I'd been accepted...

Cheque arrived today (couple of weeks)... £279.... Yes

My insurance has cost me £300 instead of £440... :-)

    It's worth the worry...

  • Received a cheque for £294 from Nationwide today. Cheapest insurance I've ever had!
  • Frogster, your first post and you've saved £294... Feels good doesn't it... :-)

I've paid half what I did last year as I passed the quarter century mark this year...

I'm in the same situation (bell quote), and I got a letter back telling me to send more details on the NW quote (as I hadn't included a photocopy of the back of the schedule). Why they can't find their own details out I don't know.

I didn't haven't had any problems so far with the Bell quote, did you make sure to send both print out of the page with the price, and also the pages with all the details (you get this when you go to 'confirm and pay').

I just wish I could get through to someone who could tell me what is going at their end. The mystery Rachel Laidler seems to have turned her phone off.
  • This is basically a thank you. I found out about https://www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk from an article in the Telegraph I think. I had an insurance quote for about £1000 from my previous provider and was hunting the net for a cheaper one. Found Bell insurance came in at £909. Then went to the Nationwide offer where the quote was £1859.

Both quotes were comprehensive, £500 excess, with 90 days European cover.

I have just recieved the letter confirming that I will get a cheque. So I am looking forward to Nationwide paying me £40 for the priviledge of insuring me for the next year.

Thank you very much. This is definately the cheapest insurance I have found.
  • Well done ALGY, this must be the highest so far...

I bet Nationwide are regretting this offer... :-)

Anyone with a Nationwide mortgage sorry if your rates go up... :-)
