Good news everyone!
I got a cheque from Nationwide for £50, double the difference policy. It only took 7 days from when I sent in my cheapest quote details. I know it's only £50 but it's better than nothing.0 -

Thanks
Already answered earlier on... long thread I know...
you can use a print out... if your quote is from nationwide online then the other quote must be from online, if your quote was via post (telephone) then so must the other...

Kitty Kat, who did you use for the cheaper quote? Just interested so I can be sure I've got a cheaper quote they'll actually accept.0

Bell direct seems the most popular for being accepted...

Hi royal flush,
I got my cheap quote from Churchill online. It is funny that the Nationwide car insurance policy is underwritten by Churchill. Also Churchill's windscreen excess is £60 and the excess on Nationwide policy is £75.0 -
I almost shouted "Yippee!" when I saw a letter from Nationwide on my doormat this morning, as I've been expecting the refund cheque from them for the past five days or so.
How cruel life can be at time - turns out that the letter was just a circular touting cheap mortgages. :-(
Better luck tomorrow!if i had known then what i know now0 -

I am over 25, driving for over 5 years and she is 24, driving for over 2 years.
Will I need to match the excess for me (eg £0.00 compulsory) as I am the main driver or for her (=£150) as she is included in the policy and NW uses the higher excess to match against?
I got an answer for this from Nationwide - its 'safer' to use the higher of the excesses for comparison purposes. I'd have to agree as there's no point in giving them an easy reason to decline the price match.
A further request from those who have claimed - can anyone please provide a template letter that you sent with your claim outlining the like-for-like aspects of the Nationwide and alternative policies?
Thanks.0 -

Hubbys insurance runs out next week, NW quote £800, Admiral £358 incl European cover, got to be worth a try!!
Success!!! :T
Hubbie had a letter yesterday saying that the claim has been successful so we are waiting for a cheque for nearly £900!!!! That means Nationwide are kindly paying us £100 to insure the car for a year.
We just filled in the claim form printed from the internet and sent it with print outs of the amount of the admiral quote and the details that we typed in. We were a bit worried cos the page with the price on didn't say what car it was for and even though we did print off the relevant pages we couldn't prove they belonged together. Also on the admiral print out it only said that it was for a Mini Cooper and not a Cooper S but they didn't query anything at all. We didn't provide any details of how the policies compared at all.
Good luck to everyone else0 -
I must say that Nationwide customer service telephone lines are pathetic. I phoned first of all to get the claim form (it says on the website you can do that). After several phone calls, being put on hold and passed from department to department, all they could tell me was it was nothing to do with them, so go into a branch and get a form, which I did.
I then bought the Nationwide insurance (£972) and then looked around for another quote. The best one I came across was the AA (£568). There are several things the AA send you when you buy online, to be safe I printed off all of the terms and conditions (about 22 pages), the confirmation email and the policy summary and details. All in all I printed off about 35 pages and sent it to Nationwide.
Got a letter back about 5 or 6 days later saying that the claim had been accepted and they'd pay me the difference by cheque within 28 days. Now it didn't say double the difference on the letter, so again several phone calls to them followed, during which no one at their call centre had a clue and no one was willing to help. Again I was told by several different people to go into the branch. I went into the branch and the woman there told me she knew nothing about it, and that I was better off waiting to see how much they gave me.
Needn't have worried though, got a cheque for £808.14 on MondayTheir customer service is pretty poor I must say, but they lived up to their promise so I can't complain. I'm getting a year's insurance for £164 when the cheapest quote was £568, so not to be sniffed at :T
This is all thanks to the email from this site, as I'd never have spotted it otherwise, thanks!! :money:0 -
Has any one else considere the possiblilty of cancelling their insuracnce after a month (having banked the checque) and going with a cheaper quote. I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to do this, but it sounds a bit too good to be true.0
