Double Discount Car Insurance Loophole!

I saw another advert in the paper for this today...looks like it could run the full term.
Does anyone have a list of insurance policies that have been successfully claimed against?

I am about to submit my claim and have just trawled through the entire history noting insurers which have either: been paid against, look OK but untested, unclear, or definitely do not meet the requried conditions. Here is the summary as of now:
Yes - and proven: Bell (post #108), Admiral (113), AA (128), Norwich Union (you must add on the eurocover and courtesty car), yes insurance (136)
Yes: Esure , https://www.elephant.co.uk, Budget, lloyds, Mark and Spencer Insurance - people have said these are OK but please check youirself if relying upon these
Maybe: Churchill, Prudential (people neither stated these failed or defintielky met criteria)
No: Tesco, Directline, Saga
OTHER KEY POINTS SEEM TO BE:
- Check the European cover element is roughly similar
- Check the excess is within £25
- Confirm you get a courtesy car
- the monthly cost by 12 for both ours and the competitors quote for a like for like comparison.
- 'Like for like' policy would need to be an online print-out if you buy online from NW

I've not been able confirm this with their helpline, my query is this:
My policy is due for renewal on the 1st of December.
If I go ahead and get a quote and match it (NW and Bell both quote 90/60 days in advance), will NW decline to honour their price match because the policy will start after their end date of 31 October? (even though both quotes extend past the deadline period?)0 -
Regarding this, it seems as though the NW policy extends your UK cover to the EU (i.e. if you have comp cover, you will be comp in Europe, 3rd party in UK = 3rd party in europe).
A lot of other policies seem to only give you the minimum required by each country as standard (presumably 3rd party).
However, if I was only to take out 3rd party, fire and theft insurance with NW, surely this would make the other policies comparable?
Any thoughts on this?0 -
I am still waiting on my claim. I sent it off on the 23rd sept. On the 30th I had a letter telling me I had to send off a copy of my nationwide insurance summary (I sent of a printout for the internet as my paperwork hadn't come through when I sent it off, bu this is apparently not good enough!). I don't see whay they need this for as they have my policy number and they can surely see what cover I have and how much I paid for it???
Anyway, I sent it off last Friday and I still haven't heard anything.
Can someone give me the phone number (pref not an 0845, 0871, 0870 number?) for their doubledifference customer services so I can chase it up. I called the normal insurance number and they gave me a number saying it was them but it was just a general banking CS number!!!!
Thanks

I also need a phone number please. I sent my claim in on 15th September and have had no response at all. Nobody I've spoke to seems to know who deals with the offer. I've been told to go to the local branch but I can't see that helping. Maybe I'll just send my claim again.0

It seems I'm not the only one then .. from seeing the two posts above. Their call centre must have been told to get rid of people. I got a very generic number that was for anything from life assurance to mortgages to credit cards.
Called back again, and told a different guy how ridiculous this was becoming, jsut for an enquiry, and he gave me the marketing dept's number, although left a message and nothing back.
I'm getting jittery about my £400 refund!!0 -

The European cover is one of the main sticking points in comparability with other policies. Opting for TPF&T cover with Nationwide is NOT going to resolve incompatibility - you don't even get F&T cover with other policies abroad, you only get the strict legal minimum cover i.e. third party only.0 -

I do have to admit to a bit of skimming here and there just to get through it all!It just struck me that most people were comparing comp policies but that the European cover might not be quite so out of the ordinary for 3rd party cover as most policies offer the minimum.
I take the point about the F&T cover.
And as NW don't offer 3rd party cover only, that answers my question!0 -
Can anyone who has had their claim accepted please tell us how long it took to subsequently receive the refund cheque?
I've had a letter accepting my claim, but just wondered how long it might be until I get the cheque.
kind regards and thanks for an AWESOME MSE tip !
