Does anyone know if it's possible to unlock a sony ericsson x10 from orange? The phone is brand new today, and orange have said that they will unlock it for £20 in 3 months, however can't do it before then and I want to put my voda sim in it now (When I ordered it I was told it would be sim free aaaargh!)
Thanks!0 -

Hi.
Just wanted to add my experience when trying to get my BlackBerry Curve 8520 unlocked.
I travel quite a lot and always use Vodafone Passport because it gives me the best of what I want. Anyway, I wanted the BlackBerry Curve 8520 on PAYG (I don't do contracts) but Vodafone don't do this phone on PAYG so ended up buying it on Orange PAYG thinking it would be easy to get it unlocked. Oh how wrong I was.
I first contacted Orange and was told in no uncertain terms to forget it for at least 3 months, so I took it to several local phone shops and they all quoted £20+ to unlock. No way I was paying that much, so I searched for hours online to try and find a way to unlock it free. I came across loads of forums where people were saying they could give me an unlock code free, but it meant me posting details from the phone including the IMEI and I'm not too happy about everyone seeing my IMEI details.
So, with no safe free way to get it unlocked i started looking through various so-called professional unlocking sites. The cheapest I found was unlocks.co.uk @ £4.99 but I was starting to think along the lines of 'you get what you pay for'. Anyway, he who dares wins and all that so I paid my £4.99 and got an email through confirming the purchase. Then about 5 minutes later got another email saying my unlock code was ready. Maybe it was just my untrusting nature but I thought it was a bit quick, although it did say on the site 5 minutes to 24 hours for delivery.
Not really expecting the code they gave me to work I followed the instructions they supplied and entered the code. To my utter amazement it worked!
Just wanted to share this because it seems most of the posts in this thread relate to the bad guys, but there are still some good guys out there0 -
You can unlock your phone for free as I tried it using the instructions from another forum.0

O2 phones unlocked for free.
I have just bought a Sony Eric X10 mini pro on a 18 month contract with O2. However I wanted to use the phone on another contract. I called up O2 customer service using normal number and spoke to assistant who said no problem and took my details. She said it will be sent off to Sony and they will be in touch with the unlock code within 14 days max by phone or email. She said O2 no longer charge for this service and so dont bother wasting money on these web sites. Just contact O2 and they give you it for free0 -

Keep us updated as I'm looking at this phone on PAYG and it only seems to be with O2 unless I get it sim free, only problem is that I get a better reception in my house from Orange so would want to put one of their sim cards in.

Just been googling and found this so either the website it seems I can't get the handset unlocked until I've had it 12 months and then have to pay for it.

ASDA offer a PAYG SIM for £5.00. Text and calls are cheap and you can keep your old number. They say on the website that if their SIM does not work in your mobile they will unlock your phone for you. Is this the cheapest way to obtain an unlock code, the lowest price I have found so far is £11.99 via EBay.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0
