I have a pay as you go Nokia 3600s on the Orange network.
The market stalls who unlock locally all say that they cannot unlock my particular phone.
I phoned Orange who say if I'm on a contract they'd unlock it after 90days charging £20.00.
They say, however, that they are'unable to request unlock codes against terminated pay as you go account'
Anyone any idea, therefore, how I unlock my phone?
I previously tried various companies on internet, but they couldn't do it.

Try what I did - find their customer relations/investigations contact number/email and ask them...

It worked for me for TMobile.

As a general rule O2 phones are not locked. As Martin says it's well worth trying another operator SIM first! :D
My experience of O2 phones is completely different, many friends and i have had several O2 phones and all have been locked. :(
  • Hi members,
I have a Virgin Sim card I wanted to keep the number as it’s the number i remember
I have been given a migrating code by Virgin.
Want to use in a sony erikson w980 /orange phone - my former upgrade.
What do I need to do?
  • anybody no where i can get this code o2 will not entertain me as not a cus anymore all help welcome.. thanks
  • I am a mobile phone engineer and I have run my own mobile phone store for many years. I just want to add a few points;
    1. I have seen many people have posted that O2 phones are sim free - not true - many O2 'Contract' phones are sim free but not all.
    2. Many people have posted that PAYG phones from Carphone Warehouse are sim free - again not true - some are indeed sim free, however many are not.
    3. Be careful when purchasing unlock codes online for Samsung mobile phones as many of the codes and the instructions will destroy your Samsung mobile phone. I have seen first hand hundreds of Samsung mobile phones with an IMEI/Serial 000000000000000. Obviously it is illegal in the UK to re-program the IMEI/Serial of a mobile phone so, if this happens to you, there is no legal way to get it fixed!
    4. I'm sure I don't need to remind you, however I would like to reiterate that there are a plethora of 'Scams' out there - online services claiming they can supply unlock codes when in fact they can't.
    5. If it seems to good to be true, it usually is!
    6. I would advise that you always visit a reputable mobile phone store to get your phone unlocked and, if they can't do it, it is likely no-one can (except of course the originating network)! There are also a number of reputable 'Unlock By Post' services popping up on the internet (I run one of them).
    7. Currently, many of the very new Nokia handsets can be unlocked only with a code from the network so be cautious of any unlocker who claims they can unlock very new Nokia mobile phones.
