I got a phone thinking it was sim free Motorola W156 for my dad as its easy to use, but it came with virgin sim, and he has T-Mobile, the IMEI is 359223016778941. I just found I could get another sim free for 10quid so is it worth unlocking, can anyone on here help. Thanks in advance.

chicko - I'm not aware that any 5800's were actually locked. Have you actually tried the O2 sim in the phone? if it is indeed locked buy the unlock code or a turbo sim from ebay should do the trick. Shouldn't cost more than £10.

jon_r - People have reported that O2 PAYG 5800 are unlocked from dial-a-phone although I don't have first hand experience of it. I do know the vodafone PAYG ones are unlocked.

cueball - If you google it there are loads of places that can supply an unlock code for a fee. Personally I would just buy a cheap up to date phone with a colour screen, that handset is ancient. :)

My Orange 5800 expressmusic is locked.... Trying to find a cheap place to get it unlocked.... Locally its about £15, online from legit place seems to be £9..... anyone else with any help here? Thanks.

I was too scammed by unlock solutions . co . uk

I opened a dispute with paypal and within a hour they refunded me.

Does anyone know if there are any codes going around for a LG cookie kp501 on Orange?

  • I thought my Motorola W377 was unlocked, since I bought it from Virgin 18 months ago with no monthly contract and no pay as you go. They used to do a tariff where you just paid by direct debit for calls that you made, so neither prepaid nor monthly contract. However, when I tried to move to O2 I discovered that the phone was locked and Virgin now want £15 and at least seven working days to unlock it. I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than pay more money to Virgin for an old model phone that is worth absolutely nothing. The only thing that makes me want to keep the phone at all is the fact that it's so out of date it's not even possible to port the contact list to my PC or a new phone.

It really is well past time the networks were stopped from doing this. I can understand it if you're still in a contract or you have an expensive phone that had a heavily subsidised purchase price, but it's totally wrong that they can blackmail you like this.
  • Total agree with "redsoxbrit" below. I tried unlocksolution.co.uk to unlock a Motorola phone which I later discovered was not "exactly" as the number they listed deep within their terms and conditions on their site.

I entered the phone model and MEI number onto their site and they took immediate payment through pay-pal, they then say you will get the unlock code email within 24 hours. The next day I get an email saying it is not on their list and therefore refuse to refund even though they clearly did not deliver what was ordered. I am sure this is illegal with respact to the sale of goods act but who has got the time to persue a £5 refund (I am sure they rely on this!).

It would be dead simple for them to have an online software routine that would check whether they have the unlock code when you enter it .. but then they would'nt be able to rip you off would they...
  • Update... Well surprise surprise.. after quibling with UnlockSolution.co.uk they refunded the money.

  • even though i bought the fone from their website, when i wanted to unlock it they asked when i bought the fone & i told them the truth, it was nov. they then wanted 20 quid to give me unlock code so i told them i got confused and it was a birthday gift i bought for someone else and my phone was older.

i also got a different fone unlocked yesterday by saying it was 13 months old
and that one was bought last july

vodaphone will not give in if you argue with them cos thier cust services is a subcontract company in wales and have no authority to make a deal.
    :money:Hi

Just wanted to let you all know i had a Vodafone Blackberry and wanted it unlocked and got turned away when i used the normal route (19.99)
so i trawled Ebay and found a seller who charged a fraction of that called unlockme2008 who had it unlocked for me in minutes!!
He only charged £5.29 and he covered all handsets, my other half had an Ericsson and he's done that one tooo..

Having given up with paypal I went to my bank and disputed the payment (I provided clear evidence of what I believe to be fraud). Just had an email from paypal saying the bank has "reversed the transaction" (i.e. I got my money back!)
Paypal have "limited access to my account" (to protect me).
Their instructions on how to sort this out are rubbish, and I gave up waiting for a real person to answer the phone (the on-line "help" is rubbish, and it crashed)

So AVOID unlock solutions . co . uk and beware of Paypal if it's a "virtual" service, as they don't protect you! But do dispute with your bank.
I know it's only a fiver, but that's not the point.
