  • All I think you can do is cancel your contract if you can't afford to / dont want to pay for it, but whether they'll allow this I've no idea. I'll be trying this with my Vod contract thru PBD.
Small claims is pointless as I only have PO box - got stung on this a year ago also, just left being owed £30 more than before.
    curse my bad luck.
shows there's rarely something for nothing.

    any advice warmly welcomed!!
    Friendly greeting!
  • Thought you may be interested to know I got this email back from them this afternoon - note NO MENTION THEY'VE GONE INTO LIQUIDATION!!

    "Dear Customer,
Thankyou for your email, we are currently experiencing very
high volumes of email traffic. At present it is taking up to 7 working days
to reply to cashback emails and would ask that you don't repeatedly send
the same questions. Customers who send the same email over and over again
are slowing down the whole process and this is making it impossible for us
    to reply any sooner.
    Regards
    The Cashback team"
    Friendly greeting!
  • ... and my previous experience seemed to imply that these companies fold when the volume of small claims reaches a certain level, which it obv. did yesterday. so annoyed.
    Friendly greeting!

Can someone, calmly, explain what options might be available to those of us that signed up to a cashback deal now that it appears that Mobile Media / Cool New Mobile / Phonebox Direct went into Administration yesterday (14.11.07).
Obviously, companies such as Vodafone, moneysupermarket.com and quidco.com will say "Nothing to do with me, Guv" and perhaps they did deal with them with the best of intentions. However, would someone provide an easy-to-understand step-by-step approach as to what to do to try and reclaim money as I imagine, at the very least, a company is unlikely to offer cashback deals unless they have some agreement with the network.
Is the correct forum to try and do this or would an email sent directly to Mr. Lewis asking for advice be more appropriate?

The only real option you have is to contact your Network operator and try and reduce your tariff/line rental. They have till now been unwilling to let you cancel the contract as the cashback deal contract was with the retailer and not them.

Sorry, I know it is going to hurt but that is about it.

I know CNM/PBD have still been paying customers cashbacks as late as this week - so it's been a big BIG surprise!! D*mn i'll have a lot of angry customers (not to mention myself - i just posted my cashback claim about an hour ago sob sob!) hopefully some of the networks will take pity & let the tariff be moved down, but i doubt anyone will get a sniff of cashback now :(
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...
  • There's no point in panicking. If you do downsize your contract and they haven't gone bust you will lose ALL the remaining cashbacks. After the shambles with other dealers (especially Mobile Connections) it's possible that some networks may assist in the near future with downsizing or cancellation, BUT I would hold fire for now. All the network lines etc. are likely to get swamped and usually there's a lot of confusion until things become clearer.

I agree it is pointless panicking, but I do think it is unrealistic to believe they can be saved.

These cash back models are seriously flawed in that the retailers underestimated the % of succesful claiments leaving them loosing as much as £200+ per connection on correct claims.

If they called the liquidators, then in my opinion they will gone for good.

    Just my opinion though

  I feel sick _pale_ _pale_ Surely they wouldn't be allowed to have the website still up and running which is what they are doing??

The administrator will be meeting to establish the state of the business, there initial thought would be to not damage it further incase there is an option to save it.

    Again just my opinion

Small claim is pointless now as even though you would win they won't be paying up.
