Any recommendations for restaurants with good vegetarian dishes? Been to PB four times with my veggie partner and have found a nice indian restaurant and Italian restaurant but apart from that, there's usually only pizza, cheese salad or omelettes for vegetarians which is very dull. We always book self-catering anyway so we won't starve.
You mentioned Zumba classes - are there any other fitness classes or instructors, such as Yoga or Pilates?
Thanks.0 -
Hi BigAunty.
Sadly, Playa Blanca is running behind a bit in the veggie stakes. Most places only have a couple of dishes available. The Spanish just really love their meat and don't quite understand our choices. I know that if you headed to the Old Town in Puerto del Carmne, there are three restaurants I can think of that cater really well for veggies... one of which is entirely vegetarian. I mentioned the Bocaina in the post above... his menu changes regularly and he usually has some really good quality choices available.
We have some friends that are non meat eaters, rather than veggie... but their favourite places are: The Italian Job (CC Papagayo), L'Artista (seafront), Le Moka (Faro Park), La Taberna (Marina) if that helps at all? Oh, and the Chinese place upstairs behind Playa Flamingo gets good reviews... although I've yet to visit it myself (I cook Chinese at home so we don't eat it out very often). Sorry!
Head to the Princesa Yaiza gym, as they have every fitness class you can think of. Spinning seems to be hot favourite with the locals here at the moment... although they haven't got me up there yet

Fruitpie - you're just a little early for Timanfaya Palace, as it's going adult only next year. But for 3 or 4 star have a look at that one as well as Iberostar Papagayo, Iberostar Lanzarote Park, Natura Palace, Rubicon Palace, Hesperia Dorada. All of these should have gala nights on. I have to say that friends of ours go to the Gala in Pauerto Calero every year and love it. I'd say it's great if you just want to stick to your hotel, or just walk a short way to a few restaurants... but for more variety I'd go to PB. Have a great time
Hi Elle1971 - thank you for your reply - have just booked Timanfaya Palace - (cant wait to go) flying out 27th Dec for one week. Its already Couples only, as confirmed by their web site and our TA. You have certainly started a great thread here. Thank you.0 -
Ah brilliant - that's good news! Have a great time! Head to the promenade outside your hotel at midnight for the fireworks.

Hi all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to pick up BBC radio (4 or 5 or world service in Playa Blanca? I have a worldband/short wave radio and would love to believe I'll have access to the internet but I don't have much faith in that possibility...
Many thanks in advance,
Caroline0 -
Sorry Caroline - am unsure. I have a friend that brings his shortwave radio... but I do not know what he listens to. Certain BBC stuff is blocked such as most television channels unless you have a big satellite dish... but I don't know about radio - sorry!
I do get BBC World News (tv channel) in my home, but that is via a Nilesat (Arabic) satellite dish. I cannot receive any radio myself.

Thanks Elle, I'll bring it and cross my fingers!
Would you have any other ideas for Christmas day lunch? The one you suggest above, La Bocaina, is a bit more than we want to spend, could you suggest any others perhaps? We have all tastes to cater for from a plain eater to those who want to enjoy local cuisine (!)
Many thanks in advance,

For a proper Xmas lunch you could do worse than try one of the few excellent British cafe/restaurants in Playa Blanca. I can recommend any of these as being very good.....

Caroline, if you have broadband, then go to bbc.co.uk, find radio then radio4 and listen live. I do it every day from Playa Blanca. All the normal BBC radio channels work.0
